Yeah, that makes sense, though I can't see how it requires some high-level strategic meeting of the minds to come up with the "let Fox News and the right wing media griftosphere do its thing and have 100% of Republicans believing every word of it by sundown" strategy. It was obvious what the end result was going to be and that the fix was in the moment that a convicted child rapist like Maxwell was moved from prison to a luxury resort immediately after meeting with the DOJ. They'll have zero trouble convincing the base.

The norms of the criminal justice system dictate that it is completely unheard of to relocate federal prisoners to much lower security settings than is dictated by their crimes and the remaining time on their sentences. The norms of also suggest that following relevant law regarding the notice requirements of relocation for those on the sex offender registry. The norms also do not include actively soliciting further statements from a multiple time admitted participant in perjury.
