He is not wrong about work release, but he is definitely full of shit about all Federal prisons being truly horrible places. There are many that really are glorified day camp for adults. And the idea that Maxwell is in danger because of the facility or other inmates is laughable. If she's in danger, its from the outside and she would be better off in a max lockup.

I disagree with the assertion that some federal prisons are glorified day camps for adults. Even the “nicest” prisons (relatively speaking) are places no one would want to be. They are all awful; just some less awful than others. People serving sentences in those less awful places cannot wait to get their freedom back. I do fully agree that the idea that she was in danger at her previous facility is laughable. And she deserved to be there. But I do commend her lawyer for advocating for her.

Well yeah, Central Prison is probably the worst in NC. And state prisons are generally much worse than most federal prisons.
But I have had many clients in Butner’s camp (the lowest security level) and they definitely aren’t having a good time.

I had a neighbor decades ago that was Dentist at the Butner facility He and his wife were by all acounts lovely people. But once or twice he let out his opinion of his patients-and I was taken aback by his basically non-Human feelings about them.......
