People can talk about ignorance the main causes of all this, but I think much of it simply boils down to people like this woman honestly believing that Trump wouldn't do many of the things he said he would do, and that other Republicans wouldn't do the things they said they would (say, like Project 2025). Like many Republicans these people vaguely believe in "cutting government waste" without ever thinking it might affect them. Trump (and Musk & DOGE) will cut other people's jobs, but not mine. Anybody who gets hurt will be someone else, not me or my family. The people who get hurt will be the ones I don't like or care for, not people like me. I've heard it from so many Republicans since 2016 - "Trump's just an entertainer and bullshitter, he loves provoking liberals and stirring stuff up by saying crazy stuff. I think the naivete and gullibility is people thinking Trump wants to do what is best for them, that his most basic need and desire is for people to tell him how great he is.

Maybe, but I would argue that extreme gullibility is an even better definition than ignorance. No doubt they're ignorant in many ways, but far too many of these people see themselves as shrewd and savvy when they're actually easy suckers and marks for con artists like Trump and assorted televangelists and quacks. Ignorance plays a part, but so does gullibility and naivete. At any rate it's really all a part of the pattern - a toxic combination of ignorance, gullibility, and placing blind trust and faith in all the wrong people.

You had to basically live in a hole to not hear the shit that trump constantly spewed. I agree that fox did cover up as much as they could and that these people didn't seem knowledge, but I find it hard for them to claim complete ignorance. Maybe willful ignorance.
I think we may be talking about different MAGA cohorts. I'm submitting that the vast majority of Trump's supporters were and are completely ignorant . Those other more informed MAGAs like HeelYeah, were informed but were confident Trump would put more money in their wallets and chose to ignore the broader fascist consequences of a Trump presidency.

It’s a feature, alongside hypocrisy. And, it’s unavoidable when your entire movement is centered around slavish obsequiousness to the most narcissistic and overtly ignorant person in the history of US federal politics. It then becomes a self perpetuating ecosystem of illogic and gaslighting. Not to mention, maga gives the excuse for these people to show their true colors, as opposed to spending energy suppressing their main character syndrome and bigotries.
