“… Executive assistant directors who lead the FBI’s National Security, Criminal, Cyber, Response and Services, Science and Technology, Information and Technology, and Human Resources branches were notified earlier this week that they would be demoted, according to a fact sheet obtained by POLITICO that was circulated by House Judiciary Democrats to the broader caucus.

… Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Friday that “we have some very bad people over there” but that he was not involved in the decisions. He added: “I’ll have to see what is exactly going on after this is finished, but if they fired people over there that’s a good thing because they were very bad, very corrupt people.”

Some of the senior FBI officials affected are choosing to retire rather than accept “summary reassignments,” according to one lawyer advising people involved. The process of firing an FBI agent normally takes at least six to nine months and requires the bureau to show some sort of serious misconduct by the agent, the attorney said. …”

“…
It was not clear how many agents might ultimately be affected, but officials are working to identify potentially hundreds for possible termination, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private personnel plans.

Of specific interest in their review were agents who worked on special counsel Jack Smith’s investigations into Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election and his alleged mishandling of classified documents, the people said. One person said agents involved in building cases against rioters in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol also were being considered for termination.

Lotta Dem lawyers gonna get rich. The firings or reassignments will definitely be the subject of lawsuits.

Matt Gaetz can take his party across the country now. "C'mon girls! Hop aboard the Matt Train!"

So basically anyone who performed a simple questioning of some random Trump staffer is being targeted.

Knee-cap national security; increase risk of terrorism; watch terrorist attacks occur; respond with fascist authoritarian brutality, in the name of national security
If a president hypothetically wanted a Gestapo-like police force, seems that eliminating any factions that chose duty over “dear leader” would be an obvious first step. And, in that hypothetical, eliminating a lot of the force at the top would allow them to promote underlings that seem most inclined to be “Yes men”.

“Trump administration officials ordered eight senior FBI employees to resign or be fired, and asked for a list of agents and other personnel who worked on investigations into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, people familiar with the matter said, a dramatic escalation of Trump’s plans to shake up U.S. law enforcement.

On Friday, the Justice Department also fired roughly 30 prosecutors at the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington who have worked on cases stemming from Capitol riot, according to people familiar with the move and a Justice Department memo reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. The prosecutors had initially been hired for short-term roles as the U.S. attorney’s office staffed up for the wave of more than 1,500 cases that arose from the attack by Trump supporters.

Trump appointees at the Justice Department also began assembling a list of FBI agents and analysts who worked on the Jan. 6 cases, some of the people said. Thousands of employees across the country were assigned to the sprawling investigation, which was one of the largest in U.S. history and involved personnel from every state.

Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove [my note - Bove is one of Trump’s personal lawyers who represented Trump against DOJ and FBI in the Smith cases] gave Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership until noon on Feb. 4 to identify personnel involved in the Jan. 6 investigations and provide details of their roles. Bove said in a memo he would then determine whether other discipline is necessary.

Acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll said in a note to employees that he would be on that list, as would acting Deputy Robert Kissane.

“We are going to follow the law, follow FBI policy and do what’s in the best interest of the workforce and the American people—always,” Driscoll wrote.

Across the FBI and on Capitol Hill, the preparation of the list stirred fear and rumors of more firings to come—potentially even a mass purge. …”
