“…Trump: Probably go after people like you, you treat me unfairly, you have hate in your heart. ABC paid me $16 million for a form of hate speech, your company paid me 16 million for a form of hate speech, maybe they'll go after you.”

I'd like to know the context of her comments, and what she means by free speech.

Some of her former clerks advocate for "criminalizing 'free speech' in some way' and I assume she doesn't think their law schools were deficient, to say nothing of their post-law school training as clerks.

I would like to criminalize egregious and repeated lies. Maybe she would say, "lies are not protected speech, so you're not criminalizing free speech," and if so we would agree. But if she would see that as free speech -- well, my law school definitely did not fail me (Sotomayor indicated she would have likely hired me as a clerk had I reapplied for a clerkship in a subsequent term -- this was Second Circuit).

I should add that Sotomayor did not appear to be on the top of her game. She said that slavery and desegregation were laws too and the fact that they were laws doesn't make them good. Obviously she meant segregation. That's not a mistake she would normally make. Maybe just an early morning in New York or she's off-kilter for some reason.

"Attorney General Pam Bondi: "There's free speech and then there's hate speech, and there is no place, especially now, especially after what happened to Charlie, in our society...We will absolutely target you, go after you, if you are targeting anyone with hate speech."

Great. So, the US is turning into the UK.

“Trump: …Where are you from?

Reporter: Australian broadcasting corporation

Trump: You’re hurting Australia very much right now. And they want to get along with me. Your leader is coming to see me soon, I'm going to tell him about you, you set a bad tone. You can set a nicer tone. Quiet”

“… Ms. Bondi tried Tuesday morning to clean up her mess, writing on social media: “Hate speech that crosses the line into threats of violence is NOT protected by the First Amendment.” But then she incoherently mixed in everything from “violent rhetoric,” to doxxing, to calling a SWAT team to the home of a Member of Congress. The AG also didn’t recant her statement on Monday that the Justice Department might “prosecute” Office Depot or its ex-employee who refused to print a Kirk vigil poster.

Ms. Bondi hasn’t had a distinguished tenure as AG, as she too often seems to follow the latest social-media, cable-TV mood swing. But she is a law enforcer, not a social-media anger management coach, and she’s sworn to uphold the Constitution.

Maybe Ms. Bondi should quit appearing on podcasts about Charlie Kirk until she listens to some Charlie Kirk podcasts.“

Trump seems to adore Bondi, so some harsh words from the WSJ Editorial Board (which has been relatively critical of Trump 2.0, in their deeply conservative way) are unlikely to put any pressure on Bondi’s behavior or tenure.

Ultimately of little to no effect but still nice to see the WSJ board is allowed to flex some editorial independence.

Don't you know you can't speak out about racism, bigotry and fascism. We're supposed to be tolerant of their hate, and can't speak out about it because then we're showing hate for the hate.
so expressing hate for hate speech is hate speech ? I should not have started day drinking at 7am this morning...
