Yeah, they do. Because those same maga’s will repeat his line and believe it. They’ll literally accept anything.
Republicans used to at least feel forced to use dog whistles ("welfare queens") and to be somewhat careful about how they phrased things as they knew the news media would in many cases call them on on it. But with Trump's election in 2016 they've realized that there are no media guardrails anymore and that their base will believe any damn thing they say and will never double check them on it. So they just blatantly lie and are pretty much as racist, sexist, and homophobic and transphobic as they want to be. And their base either laps it up or doesn't care, or both.

The average increase of about 43% is considerably lower than the 132% in 1973, so a lot less to shake off during normalization…

Just bought gas at BJ’s here in Burlington. Gas was $3.52. That is $.18 less than what I paid about three weeks ago. But it is still $1.10 higher than it was in late February.

Shocker. A bunch of people who were nowhere to be seen when gas was over $5 per gallon, inflation was rising to over 9%, the prices of groceries were going through the roof....all created by the worst administration in US history....have just now decided they have a problem with the price of fuel. Lol, that's why nobody really takes y'all seriously.
Most economists that I heard talk said inflation during that period had three causes: supply chain disruption from covid (I can personally attest to this from my work in manufacturing), the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the stimulus. I don't think anyone can credibly say which had the biggest influence. So yes, a Biden policy had some effect, but based on global inflation at the time, it is pretty clear we would have had high inflation without the stimulus, just maybe not as high. To note, inflation was far worse in the rest of the west as I recall. On the other hand, the current and near future increase in inflation is absolutely caused by the Iran war, and that is absolutely Trump's fault, 100% in his lap. Similarly, the increased debt is 100% the fault of the party that controls the executive branch and both houses of congress. No excuses. This is a cluster f---.

Disclaimer: Micro and Macro were the only econ courses I took in college >30 years ago, so there are probably a lot of details about inflation I am unaware of.

You’re talking about the Trump Administration? In that case we agree.

Must be some kind of weird news delay in Thomasville. Filled up last weekend near downtown for $3.54/gallon. Same station today is $3.99/gallon!! That's more than any of the stations I've seen all week around Winston.
