I count states that I drive through. I don’t count airports.

That distinction doesn’t buy me much. It only adds Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Hampshire I believe.

Edit: Forgot I stayed the night in Arkansas once. Was trying to do the drive from DC to Oklahoma without stopping but ended up stopping an hour west of Little Rock. Mom was with me. Gosh I wish I could do that again. So many things we could talk about…

Also Indiana may or may not have been an overnight stop.
I have lived in or stayed in NC, SC, GA, VA, DC, MD, NJ, NY, CT, MA, NH, VT, OH, PA. Also CO, WA, CA, IL, WI, MI, MO, TX, AZ. If Disney World counts then FL. NV, UT, MN, NM, TN, IN, WV.

Driving through RI has to count because there's almost nothing else to do there.

I've driven through AR and IA but haven't stayed there. I've never been near a Dakota and don't plan to. Never been to Idaho or Wyoming and don't plan to. Not HI or AK. Not OR either, somewhat surprisingly. Not NE, KS, WY or MT. I've driven through Delaware on 95 and even stayed the night, but I'm not sure that really counts. Never been to KY, AL, MS or LA and wouldn't be caught dead in the first two. Never been to ME.

So that's 32/51 (counting DC), 33/52 if you count PR.

That’s not a news article.

It’s an opinion piece written by a conservative writer and published by the right-wing WSJ Opinion Page.
I didn't say it was a NEWS article. I said it was an interesting article. If you would like to detail how the author is wrong, please do so. Otherwise to discount it just because it came from the WSJ Opinion Page without knowing its accuracy choosing to be willfully ignorant about the subject.

6-10 others candidates, none of which you would vote for. Someone is worried about Newsome as a real threat
I'm a registered republican. I can't vote in the dem primary so my opinion of them doesn't matter. As for being worried about newsome, he is my preferred choice (other than aoc) because I don't think he is electable in a general election because he will have to run on his record in CA. The country just voted against most of what he represents. My biggest concern is that there is someone out there that is a dem, but not a liberal dem. That could get elected after 4 years of trump. But as long as aoc, newsome, bernie, crocket, the squad, etc. dominate the headlines there is less chance a sane dem gets any traction.

I've got 45/50, plus PR and DC.

Missing the Dakotas, Nebraska, Montana and Alaska. I have the same rule -- driving counts, airports don't. I kinda cheated with Iowa. Drove from MSP to Austin, MN and got within five miles of Iowa, so I did a short detour to an Iowa gas station to pick up No. 45.

Hoping to knock off Nebraska with a CWS trip one day. Alaska and Montana are both on the todo list. Not sure I will ever make the Dakotas. I think those are the two states the fewest people have visited.

I'm missing nebraska, both dakotas, kansas, nebraska, oklahoma, montana, and alaska. I will knock either montana or alaska in 26. Don't see me getting to the others though.

American voted against a black woman. Newsom is a middle aged white man, which they love.

Disagree completely. America voted against a terrible candidate and incompetent woman with zero tangible accomplishments in 4 years as VP, "unburdened by what has been", a woman who was complicit in almost unchecked illegal immigration, a woman who like a deer in the headlights said she can't think of anything she would change from what biden did, inflation, identity politics, the absurdness of biological males playing women's sports, and as Bill Mahar said other "nutty shit". The color of her skin had zero to do with anything.

Be realistic, you’ve not visited Iowa. You checked it off.

In 2016, I was in Washington working. I was within 5-15 miles of Oregon for 3 weeks. Too busy to do more than drive into it and drive out of it; so, I never drove into it.

I used to go to Arkansas a lot on business. As far as I’m concerned you can just flush it down the toilet, although it might clog the pipes. Never been to Nevada, but was flying to San Diego at night on a business trip. The pilot said if you look out of the right windows to the north you will see a giant glow. There was a giant semicircle of light off to the north. It was Vegas. If you looked down at the desert floor you saw total darkness save for an occasional spot of light. Our granddaughter goes to Alabama. We were visiting her one time. We stopped at a gas station to get some gas, go to the bathroom and get something to drink. I told the woman at the check out counter that our granddaughter was attending Alabama. She asked me where we were from and I told her NC. She told me when she graduates to make sure she didn’t stay in Alabama, but to come home. Some of the exits off I-20 in Alabama look like scenes from Stephen King’s The Stand. When she wants to come home I buy her a plane ticket. She only has to drive 50 miles to Birmingham and then we pick her up in Raleigh. It puts my mind at ease.

The first time I drove through Rhode Island, I thought it counted because it’s so tiny and I drove across it. I realized driving thru it counted for nothing. The 2nd time, I drove through, I stopped at a diner and ate. I thought that counted. I read a little more about Rhode Island. I realized I’d never been to Rhode Island. So, I went and visited Rhode Island.

Rhode Island has some spectacular coastline and excellent hikes - along the coast and inland. The Italian neighborhoods in-and-around Providence has excellent food.

Driving from Massachusetts to Maine on I-95 doesn’t count as going to NH.

Driving thru Maryland or Delaware on I-95 or down the DelMarVa Peninsula doesn’t mean you’ve visited DE or MD.

Driving I-10 from Jacksonville to points west doesn’t mean you’ve visited FL, ‘Bama, Mississippi, or Louisiana.

You got to do more than pass thru to have been in a state.

I’ve been in the Chicago airport three times. That’s the extent of my visits to Illinois. So, while I’ve technically been in Illinois, I don’t count it.

Given that you voted 3 times for the least qualified candidate to ever run for president who had zero experience/accomplishments, and after accidentally getting elected the first time his first term disasters should have disqualified him from ever running again, you are in no position to judge others qualifications for the job. All 3 Dems Trump ran against were infinitely more qualified and competent- 2 were women, 1 was a man. Of the 81+millions who showed up to vote Biden, a significant number stayed home when a woman was on the ballot and that elected Trump both times. There are millions who simply will not vote for a woman, especially one of color, for President (including you).

I voted for Haley in the republican primary so, yea, wrong again.

ETA: not even your own party voted for Kamala. She dropped out of the primary almost before it got going because she was polling so badly due to being such a bad candidate. She was chosen for VP specifically for her gender and color. All of the millions of dems who didn’t vote for her must be anti woman and anti black too according to your logic.

I’m not sure how the Gavin Newsom thread morphed into this subject, but I will take it even further off topic!

I have been to all states except ND, SD, MT, WY, and AK. I’ve also been to DC and PR.

So that’s 45/50 plus DC & PR

I have lived in five states. I define “lived in” as owning or renting a home, having possessed a driver license and paid state income tax there.

NC (31 years)
NY (1 year)
AL (4 years)
OH (25 years)
CA (10 years)

For the last 12 of the 25 years I lived in Ohio, I worked in Vermont and commuted there at least one week per month. For the last 7 of those years I spent basically every other week there and kept an apartment and a car in Keene NH (the closet town of any size to the place I worked in VT.) For those 7 years, I always had a car at an airport. Either my Ohio car at the Cleveland airport or my New England car at either Boston or Hartford airport. So that’s pretty much like living there but it was never my primary domicile, nor my legal residence for tax purposes and I never held a VT or NH driver license so it doesn’t meet my own definition of “lived in.”

I was in a multi-racial marriage and was harassed for it in WV, so when I was married I would never have gone to Bama under any circumstances. My younger boys look essentially white, but they have Indian names and that might confuse the locals and thus they probably shouldn't go there either.

Well, I agree with the exception of RI. But I remember now I took a campus tour at Brown, so that counts.

I understand why you wouldn’t. Tuscaloosa is kind of an oasis in a desert. The rest of the state that I’ve seen is not where I would want to live under the circumstances you described. Hell, I wouldn’t want to live there under any circumstances.
