So why would someone want to vote for an individual who led the collective legislation efforts that made taxes and the cost of living so high that it causes businesses and residents to want to leave? There will likely be 5 to 8 people from the left to run in the dem primary. What makes someone go yea, he’s my choice? I will say he is putting in the effort to copy trump’s style, move to the center, and keep his name in the news, but it seems so fake.
Maybe that person is willing to pay higher taxes to live in a state where his daughter doesn’t have to die from an ectopic pregnancy?

Personally I don’t like Newsome, because I also think he’s fake as hell. But acting like migration out of California is because he’s doing a bad job is laughable. Businesses are leaving so they can be in states where they can pay their workers less and treat them worse. Ever heard the term “race to the bottom”? Rural Mississippi is cheap as hell to live in but it ain’t because the government is doing such a great job.

No argument on the attractiveness of Mississippi. However it also doesn’t have the wealth ca has. Given the resources ca has, there is no excuse for it to be a net migration loser except that unchecked liberal g’ment control has created a climate that is unaffordable or untenable to over 3 million of its residents. Newsome never attempted to change that or if he did was completely feckless. I get the left voting for him in a general but not in a primary unless the thought was that none of the other candidates could win a general.

You’re right. It’s completely logical to choose to pay higher taxes over your life on the 1% chance your daughter has an ectopic pregnancy.

I’d gladly pay more taxes for a national health service that controls medical costs and guarantees quality health care for all (taking that burden off businesses), for better roads and public schools.

The only reason ca is 22nd is due to being ranked 1st in tech. 48th in business friendliness, 40th in cost of doing business, 32nd in quality of life. Newsome stats don’t tell that tale do they?
Again, the low rankings in things like "business friendliness" and "cost of doing business" are mainly the result of intentional choice in California to be highly protective of consumers. California has more consumer-protection regulations than anyone. It's those sorts of regulations that drove, say, Elon Musk to relocate to Texas, where he could pay his workers less and didn't have to worry about running afoul of state regulations that were meant to protect them from being exploited by bosses like Musk. That may make the state less attractive to businesses but doesn't mean the state is making the wrong policy choice to be highly protective of consumers and workers.

Also, FWIW: in 2019, when Newsom was elected governor, the same CNBC rankings ranked California 32nd in its overall business friendliness rankings:

So, if you're going to, for whatever reason, use those rankings as the end-all, be-all for how good a job the governor is doing, seems like he deserves credit for improving California's lie.

Because he’s gonna “stick it to the Pubs.” Karma’s a bitch. Brace yourself.

I don't think that is the defining issue for newsome in a general election. I don't think the avg voter is even aware of CA's unfriendly business environment. What will be more impactful are other things in CA that turn voters off.
