Gene Hackman, wife and dog found dead / wife died of hantavirus, Hackman a week later of heart failure

Nothing but respect. What an incredible actor. Really appreciated all of his films and roles... Hope he and his wife and dog died peacefully - and in the manner they would have wanted.
 
Great actor. He was 95, so nothing shocking about his passing, but I am very sorry to hear about his 63-year-old wife’s untimely passing.

That was the first thing I remember seeing Frances McDormand in. Agreed - terrific movie (although not a pick-me-up). I want to say the director, Alan Parker, was also the same director as Pink Floyd's The Wall.
 
Great actor and I've seen him in a ton of movies. I don't think it's his greatest performance, but one of the most satisfying for me is Hoosiers, one of my favorite sports-related movies. He used to describe his acting style as that of a craftsman, and he improved almost every film he was in. RIP.
 
The phrase "iconic performance" is used too often; there are really very few. Cagney in White Heat, Brando in On the Waterfront, Nicholson in The Shining. And Hackman as Popeye Doyle in The French Connection. So great, so very many times, and he made ordinary Hollywood stuff vastly better with his performances (like in The FIrm or No Way Out). Dozens of such great performances. One of the best in film history.
 
he was old as fuck. couldve had some mental illness and accidentally shot wife and dog then realized what he did and shot himself. doesnt matter life has finally balanced out for all three of them....born and died.

This happened to a friend of mine. He and his dog had driven out from Chicago to their condo in Colorado for a skiing trip. His wife and daughter were flying out to join him in a couple days. He wasn’t answering his phone the morning after he arrived so his wife had someone go check and they found him and his dog dead from carbon monoxide poisoning from the furnace. He was 54 years old.
