Gene Hackman, wife and dog found dead / wife died of hantavirus, Hackman a week later of heart failure

A Bridge Too Far (1977) starred both Michael Caine and Gene Hackman thus providing the closing argument for the Caine-Hackman Theory.
I haven't seen that movie in ages, but it's a great war movie, and Hackman was one of my favorite characters as the Polish General (or maybe Colonel, I don't remember). His speaking up at the staff meeting at the start of the movie when Montgomery's staff outlined their plan and bluntly telling them that it was crap and wouldn't succeed was a great scene. And of course they ignore him and of course he turns out to be right.

Bizarre

“… Betsy Arakawa, was found dead on the floor of a bathroom on Wednesday, according to a search warrant affidavit. An open prescription bottle and scattered pills were discovered near her body on a counter in the bathroom.

A dead German shepherd was found between 10 and 15 feet away from Ms. Arakawa in a closet of the bathroom, the affidavit said. There were no obvious signs of a gas leak in the home, it said, and the Fire Department did not find signs of a carbon monoxide leak.

The deputies found Ms. Arakawa first and then discovered Mr. Hackman lying in the mud room, with his body in a similar condition to his wife’s, the affidavit said. He was found in gray sweatpants, a blue long-sleeve T-shirt, brown slippers and with a cane, the affidavit said. A pair of sunglasses was found to his left. One of the deputies on the scene said that it appeared he had “suddenly fallen,” the affidavit said.

Sheriff Adan Mendoza of Santa Fe County said in a phone interview that investigators were still trying to determine what caused their deaths, noting that there were no obvious signs of trauma to the bodies and that no note had been found. The sheriff said the home was continuing to be searched on Thursday. …”

That is very weird. Wondered if he died and then she took her own life with the pills, and the dog ate some of the pills and died as a result. it doesn't seem like carbon monoxide was the cause according to the fire department, and there wasn't any blood around.

Kind of surprised carbon monoxide poisoning is still a thing. It usually happens from a faulty furnace or water heater. Why not put sensors on the furnace that if it detects carbon monoxide, it shuts down? Just seems like a weird thing to die from with a somewhat easy fix.

Interesting tidbits coming out.

Hackman was likely dead for 9 days before anyone found him based on information from his pacemaker.

His wife was found with pills all around her and based on the decomposition of the body, she might have been dead for over 2 weeks but it's hard to make that kind of determination.

They both tested negative for carbon monoxide and the fire department did not find any carbon monoxide or carbon monoxide leaks.

So not carbon monoxide. Wild speculation. One died and then the other committed suicide killing the dog on the way out?

Maybe the wife died of natural causes, the dog dehydrated to death in the crate, and 94-year-old Hackman was demented and couldn't take care of himself?

Most likely a much more mundane explanation but the not carbon monoxide poisoning does make that a bit more difficult to tie up.

The best theory I heard today was wife found Gene on ground, freaked out and took pills to calm down but then had a heart attack and spilled pills. Dog then ate pills and died.

I think the dog was put in the crate and died from not having any water for so long. I think Gene died from a heart attack. Maybe his wife took the pills to kill herself. Or she was having a medical event herself and tried to take pills and died of a heart attack, and he just happened to die of one later. But leaving the front door open males me think she did take her life and left it open so someone can come in and find them.

Same poster believes that one of the owners of IC is a convicted murderer and there's a conspiracy to cover up this truth.
Wait, that's what he believes is the great conspiracy at IC?

I didn't know he'd revealed what it was.
