This is certainly a tangent from this thread, but given the strongest arguments against the death penalty, the nature of the crime shouldn't matter. The best argument against the death penalty is that the chance of mistake in conviction and sentencing is nonzero (at best, and probably substantially higher than nonzero given the inherent problems with the criminal justice system). The death penalty is irreversible when a mistake has been made - that is the best reason to oppose it. You can't bring back a wrongfully executed person back to life. LWOP (Life without possibility of parole) can be reversed if evidence turns up that the convicted person is not innocent.

In my opinion, the more shocking the crime, the more likely it is that a jury gets it wrong. If a jury hears from a prosecutor that the accused allegedly did something truly horrific, they are much more likely to want to find them guilty. It is human nature to want to see a horrific act punished. I think this cuts against a jury dispassionately making factual findings.

Completely agree.

My turn from the death penalty was reading of how many wrongfully convicted people were freed using DNA and the innocence project.

Now, it's really an expression of how bad I think a crime is.

But, if we could be sure of no wrongful convictions, sex crimes against minors would be at the top of the list for those I would want to see get the death penalty.
 
No this is a better place for this. All the LBGTQphobic people who waste so much energy trying to stop people from loving each other should redirect that energy into stopping real predators.

If I had to take a guess, I bet nerdy Elon is riffing on Obi Won Kanobi saying Anakin Skywalker was killed by the dark side. It fits his analogy and his geekiness.

Elon has been on the “woke mind virus” thing for quite awhile. There is a good podcast with Ezra Klein and Kara Swisher going through his evolution and how Elon sees life as a video game and he is the player 1 hero.

Some women have stopped coming, at least when Sammy's around. Others like Pete have stood their ground. The longtime Democrat grew so frustrated that she recently wrote President Trump asking him to intervene.

A gym that even attempted to address the issue, especially in CA, would likely have a significant force of the progressive/woke world come down on them.

That's how cancel culture works/worked - fear of the far-left that has no problem ending your career/business for disagreeing with things like "We just don't want to see hairy balls in the Women's locker room".

Yeah, I think this is nonsense. Using a bathroom stall is one thing, parading around being an exhibitionist is something else entirely and I think your notion of the reaction of the “progressive/woke world” complete bullshit. I also don’t think you believe it, but you’re simply trying to be inflammatory and stir up shit.
