Chief Justice Karen Baker does not have the authority to fire certain employees, five justices said, calling her actions ‘retaliatory’​


“… Five of six associate justices — Rhonda Wood, Barbara Webb, Shawn Womack, Cody Hiland and Nicholas Bronni — issued an administrative orderFriday saying Chief Justice Karen Baker did not have the authority to fire 10 Administrative Office of the Courts employees for whom she’d prepared termination letters.

Some AOC employees, including the director, cannot be terminated without approval from at least four of the Supreme Court’s seven members, the five justices stated. Other workers cannot be fired without the AOC director’s approval, which Director Marty Sullivan did not give.

In addition to Baker, Associate Justice Courtney Hudson did not participate in the administrative order.

… Baker was sworn in Wednesday after becoming the state’s first elected female chief justice in November. Hiland and Bronni were also sworn in Wednesday as new appointees filling vacant Supreme Court positions, including Baker’s former seat.

On Thursday, Baker “confronted” Sullivan and Supreme Court Chief of Police Pete Hollingsworth “about their responses to Freedom of Information Act requests involving her” and said she was considering firing them, the administrative order states.

Baker reportedly left Sullivan’s office “disheveled” and harassed AOC staff, and she brought both Hudson and Allison Hatfield with her to the office, though it was unclear whether they entered, according to Talk Business. Hatfield is a former law clerk for Baker and is now the Arkansas Department of Commerce’s chief of staff.

In response, a majority of the Supreme Court created a rule that justices cannot enter a locked office of anyone besides their staff without permission, Arkansas Business reported…”

Wut? Is “looking disheveled” media speak for JBF? I don’t quite follow all the crazy here but short version the newly elected Chief Justice apparently burst in guns blazing and tried to fire everyone in the court’s employee with whom she has a beef.

A video showing the husband of a Republican senator refusing to shake Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' hand took off online Monday, after the awkward moment in the Senate on Friday.

The clip, showing Senator Deb Fischer's husband Bruce turning down Harris' offer, was shared on X, formerly Twitter, by political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, who said it showed "the level of class you can expect from MAGA".


The Fischers lease 11,724 acres of federal land in north-central Nebraska for about $4,700 for seven months — paying about $110,000 less than the market rate for private land in Cherry County.

Fischer defended the federal grazing program, saying ranchers help the government manage federal land. She also said the family follows all federal regulations and doesn't have a say in how much it is charged.

"We don't negotiate a price. The price is set," said the lawmaker, who was raised in Lincoln and moved to the Sand Hills after marrying rancher Bruce Fischer.

Managing federal lands for the grazing program costs federal taxpayers about $140 million a year and the government collects about $21 million in grazing fees, according to a 2005 report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

Program critics, including the Nebraska Wildlife Federation, would like to see grazing fees put up for public auction or otherwise adjusted nearer to market value. Others would like to see all cattle removed and the land managed entirely for native wildlife and the broader public.
The last major effort to increase federal grazing fees failed in Congress in the 1990s after ranchers fought a proposal by then-President Bill Clinton to overhaul the system.
Few ranchers in Nebraska hold federal grazing rights. Only 136 of Nebraska's 20,000 beef producers hold them.

holy shit, you are shameless. arguing about something that was recorded for the world to see and is shown like 5 posts above yours itt.

he immediately passed off the bible to his wife and had every opportunity to shake KH's hand and look her in the eye. his behavior was akin to that of a 3 year old throwing a tantrum.

They really are going to hound this poor man to the end of his life, aren't they? And not because he's evil or did anything wrong, but simply because he is a dreaded "expert" who supported masking requirements and shutting down businesses and schools (based on common sense and the best medical evidence) and vaccine requirements, and so he has become the symbol for MAGA Nation of everything and everyone that they hated about the pandemic. And for that terrible crime they want him thrown in prison.
