Because in 4 years he will have nothing left to do for them. He will be approaching his mid 80s, if even alive, and likely totally mental shit. They use him as a vessel to get power. They dont LIKE him.

Trump's base will support anything he wants to do though and that's a problem for GQP pols. The party is completely beholden to his whims and desires.
 
California Dem is absolutely not the answer in 2028. They will blow him up with the same culture war things as Kamala, except 10x.

Candidate has to be someone who is largely immune to bad-faith culture war BS. Sadly probably has to be a white man. I like Buttigieg but even he may present some problems in that regard (moreso in his past open support for left-wing social causes than him being gay himself).

Pete is an amazing communicator but got less than zero traction among nonwhite voters.

A lot can change in four years but I think Shapiro would be the best candidate at the moment. Left-of-center white male from the Rust Belt.
 
For the 2028 campaign, St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago will claim that the 45th Presidency didn't count because the Democrats were mean and the Chinese released a bio-weapon during that period. And the USSC will dutifully opine that Trump 45 is a nullity and Trump 47 is a first term President who is Constitutionally entitled to run for re-election. Also, the USSC will probably rule that the clear intent of the 22nd Amendment, given the context of its passage, was to prohibit more than two consecutive terms as President.

I would take a referendum on Trump in 28... As an 83 year old man, and people don't like his presidencies in the present
