But, the MAGAts will INSTANTLY turn on ANYONE who doesn’t COMPLETELY support Trump.
 
I predict that an unrestrained Trump will make such a mess of the country that no Republican will have a chance in 2028. It might be the best bet for Democrats to just sit back and let Trump do his thing. I kind of predicted that we won't get rid of Trumpism without pain. Hopefully it won't be on the level that Germany went through to get rid of Nazism.

That is, of course, if we have anything close to a free and fair election.

Mayor Pete is the best of us. But he will never be president.

The only hope of him being president is the current political shift that is occurring moves socially conservative black voters that have always voted Dem to the GQP. If THAT were to happen, then Pete has a chance. But socially conservative blacks hate gays more than any other group. They think it's a literal plague upon the black community.
 
Pete is a good technocrat. Might even be a good president, though his politics are decidedly to the right of mine. Not sure he’d be a a good candidate for president.

Maybe. Trump could also keel over from a heart attack tomorrow.

It is a Hobson's choice though. Either the country tanks or Republicans are elected in 2028.

I use to think that way, but I’ve seen too many autocrats win second elections to know better. Now, I don’t rule out anything.
 
I’ll be surprised if Trump doesn’t try for a 3rd term, no matter how old he is. He’s the quintessential “pre-Madonna”. If not him, Jr will pop some more adderall and run. Trumpism requires a Trump.

I’d be wary of Trumpism afterTrump.Always thought the most dangerous MAGA was one that actually knew how to work the levers of government (a DeSanctis type).

Everyone thought that after Fidel Castro died, Cuba politics would change. They didn’t.

Everyone thought that when Chavez in Venezuela passed, that the next guy would be a pushover. That guy (Maduro) is still in power.

I’ve always had faith in the political pendulum that balances out over time. What I’ve learned recently is that sometimes that pendulum can get stuck on an extreme longer than we’d like with devastating consequences. Letting unfettered power go too long is very dangerous. That’s what I don’t like about the “let them go all out” strategy.
