Democrats subsidizing health care. Socialism!!

Trump subsidizing health care. Winning.

you can't make this stuff up.
Laura "Shut Up & Sing" Ingraham is a true pioneer in this area - when it's Taylor Swift, it's "shut up & sing," but when it's Kid Rock or Lee Greenwood, it's "you're so brave for using your voice and platform to express your views!"

Fox News & other right-wing media has been selling their viewership base on "a double standard is perfectly fine when it's in our favor" for going on 30 years. It's just been more pronounced during the Trump years because the right decided to go wayyyyyy to the right.

The GOP conundrum here is that there really aren't many quality "free market" options for reducing the health care cost curve while maintaining quality and at least keeping access to status quo. The only way to really accomplish anything close to reducing cost while maintaining quality and access is via government intervention...something nearly every country on earth has come to understand.

What the GOP SHOULD do is go all in on a single payer system. They control all branches of government and have the power to shape and mold a new system in whatever form or fashion they deem appropriate. They could even create a "private" company of their own design or desire to administer the system and dole out some sweet payday to a wealthy donor. Create real healthcare reform now while you have control and can set priorities. The system would endure even through holes and weaknesses because it is so difficult to reform healthcare. Of course they won't do this - they will hem and haw and waste everyone's time while getting nothing done and healthcare premiums will continue to rise.

News: Republican senators have been privately lobbying President Donald Trump to support a limited short-term extension of Obamacare subsidies, arguing it would save the GOP from a 2026 drubbing and buy time for Congress to pass a longer-term health care plan that mirrors the president’s preferences.

Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has spoken with the president several times this week to pitch the idea, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

Republicans balk at Trump’s health care proposal before it’s even released

“… The planned rollout had sparked immediate consternation on Capitol Hill, where many Republicans said they only learned about it after details leaked to the press. The proposal drew heavy criticism from conservatives who panned the proposal for including an extension of key enhanced ACA subsidies that are due to expire at the end of the year.…”

“…The message from Johnson, in a phone call with administration officials, came as President Trump’s advisers were drafting a healthcare plan that extended the subsidies for two years. This further underlines how hard it will be politically to stave off sharp increases in healthcare costs next year for many Americans.”

____

If they had just given the Dems this during the shutdown, it would have been extended for only one year and the GOP wouldn’t have the pressure now to do something to “fix” healthcare access.

But isn't that a very good thing for our side? I realize the short term harm, but the long term benefits outweigh them tenfold.

“… President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he does not want to extend Obamacare subsidies after reports surfaced that he was preparing a health-policy framework to extend Affordable Care Act insurance premium subsidies for two years.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew to Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday, Trump made clear he opposed such a move, buckling to pressure from Republican lawmakers who are against it….”

Trump hates Obama with a passion and he knows that Obamacare is Obama's signature achievement, so of course he's simply got to destroy it and he's been pushing for that since he first took office in 2017. He was thwarted in his first term by John McCain and by the simple fact that he had no plan to replace it and thus couldn't sell abolishing the ACA even to most Congressional Republicans. But here in his second term his control over Congress and all parts of the government is far stronger and he believes he can finally do it. And they've learned from their mistakes in his first term in the sense that they'll come up with some crappy plan that likely won't work but which they think they can sell and that will be their excuse to finally eliminate it. And all so Dear Leader can have the satisfaction of striking another blow at Obama.

I have serious qualms with any plan this group is likely to approve. I know. I have nothing to go on including any hints at what their plan is.
I would normally say lol at you after the dumpster fire the left gave us but the republicans have had going on 4 years of total control of the g’ment and have shrunk to the occasion to produce anything. I share your skepticism.
