Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals to meet on short notice in Virginia

It's not 1860 anymore. If a shooting civil war breaks out, there is more than one member of the administration who would consider a nuclear strike inside the Continental United States. God help us.

If Heggy and Trump go as far as it sounds like they wanna go, the best I can envision is a refusal to follow unlawful orders. Perhaps that would awaken a dormant backbone in congress and they impeach Heggy. Trump could either support Heggy, lash out in some crazy way and get impeached or he does what he did in Trump 1.0 and throw Heggy under the bus.
 
Haven't posted on either Hegseth or Trump's speeches as I've been busy, but both of those speeches were insane and way beyond the pale. In any other administration or era it would have gotten Hegseth immediately fired and Trump, if not impeached, then certainly regarded with horror, ridicule, and disgust. But in this administration it was only a Tuesday. Most Americans have become so used to this shit they've either tuned it out (which is a big mistake, imo) or they've managed to find some way to excuse it if they're a MAGA, but that was some scary stuff - using blue cities as "training grounds" for our military, essentially saying that we're going to eliminate women and many minorities from military service and go backwards, threatening high-ranking military officers with firings if they don't go along with every single thing Dear Leader and his wannabe warriors like Hegseth want, complaining that they didn't applaud enough, and on and on. It was surreal, like watching something you'd see in North Korea or a banana republic dictatorship. Thanks, MAGA!

Classic WTF? faces all around there. These people are the real stars of our military, not the bigoted, misogynistic, wannabe warrior Fox talking head jackass Trump made Secretary of "War" or draft dodger Dear Leader himself. I will say the fact that so many of them looked shocked, disgusted, and didn't applaud does give me some hope. And for the inevitable post of "there is no hope, they'll have to obey orders no matter what they're told to do" you may be right, but given the increasingly dark downward spiral we're on it was nice, if for at least a moment, to see some people clearly looking disgusted with what they're being told by the morons and horrible people running this travesty of an administration.

This reminded me of the Blizzcon gaming convention in 2018 when the audience was expecting an announcement for Diablo IV, and instead got an announcement that Blizzard had been spending all their resources on developing a mobile version of the game. The famous, "Do you guys not have phones?" response by the exasperated presenter when the PC gamers began booing makes me laugh to this day. It's a prime example of what it means to not understand your audience. Hegseth got some of that the other day.

I'm someone who is both extremely alarmed and highly disgusted at the rhetorical display Hegseth and Trump put on yesterday, and also highly skeptical that they actually have the testicular fortitude- or more importantly, the true following in the military ranks- to pull off what they were boasting about yesterday. MAGA is almost always all bluster at all times, and it's all fun and games to talk on the internet about war and enemies within and eradicating liberals in city streets. But there are a whole lot of people with a whole lot of guns and a whole lot of ammo in this country who aren't really keen on having American citizens killed on the streets of American cities. MAGAts always seem to forget that we non-MAGAt conservatives and liberals have guns, too. There's a whole lot of places in areas like Memphis, New Orleans, Birmingham, St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia, Chicago, New York, etc. that Trump and Hegseth are errantly thinking would just roll over for a bunch of inbreds cosplaying as soldiers.

Misogynistic tones aside, I think this is a good idea. We should have high physical requirements for certain roles in society and they shouldn't be lowered.
