I don't know why the NCAA thought it was a good idea to let the players transfer every year. I understand them getting paid. They need to become employees of the university and have contracts and buyouts just like the pros.
Not sure the NCAA has the right/ability to stop it.

You are correct. The NCAA doesn't have that power any more.

At this point, transfer regulation can come about in one of two ways: collective bargaining or Congress. The NCAA is very limited in what it can do under current antitrust law.

It’s not good it’s not really bad from a “look” perspective. It will hurt on the court if the next guy in that role is worse than Ian was.

Every player is year to year now. At the end of the season nobody if “yours” anymore. They are all free agents.

This is college basketball.
Denial is a response, but it's not the one I would've gone with.

Honestly, not looking forward to next season.

Really starting to doubt the coaching staff, but even more I'm doubting the system. This portal bullshit is for the birds. At least the pro sports have contracts so you can build. How can you build a team when you may need to replace everyone every year?

What an idiotic article. Regardless of where you stand on the whole issue, what kind of a person writes this crap?

At times, Jackson looked like the Tar Heels' best player on the floor . . . That stretch of games made it seem likely that Jackson was well on his way to becoming a sure-fire first-round pick, but that drastically changed as his role decreased throughout the season.

In fact, Jackson didn't play more than 20 minutes in any of the Tar Heels final six games. Sure, he wasn't scoring the basketball at a high level, but it never felt like North Carolina's coaching staff did anything to help get him going.

IOW, the author is mad that IJ didn't get more minutes when he was playing like crap. All right, let's continue:

Speaking of lineups... when Jackson did start, he was playing out of position. When Davis was adamant on playing a smaller lineup, Jackson served essentially as the "3," mostly having to score against (and defend) players of bigger size. Not to mention the fact that he was working alongside a very small backcourt of RJ Davis and Elliot Cadeau, both of whom aren't the best defensive players by any means.

Wait, Davis was adamant on playing a smaller lineup? WTF? Is this ass arguing that we should have been playing three big men all along? CHD was forced to play a smaller lineup. Good lord. Keep reading:

In an effort to get more offense generated, wouldn't it have made sense to go with the bigger lineup with Davis at the point and Jackson at his true position as an off-ball guard?

Maybe. Let's see, that would mean not giving minutes to Trimble, and giving more minutes to . . . whom exactly? Who should have been taking Seth's minutes so IJ could play off-guard? Jalen? James Brown?

So the NCAA can't set rules on transferring anymore?

You’re in denial if you don’t think is the new normal in college basketball.

Why did Vaseer leave Arizona? Why did the BE POY leave St. John’s?

Top players leave top programs for more money. It’s a business. I’m sure other factors come into play but this is pure free agency.

A different coach is going to be dealing with the same issues.

I think we could match what Jackson could get on the open market. I think he is leaving because he doesn’t think Hubert will play him through mistakes. Once a player loses confidence in the coaches, he is going to look somewhere else.

Could be but most top coaches are going to make you earn your minutes.

A high percentage of players blame others for holding them back when things go wrong. The greats work harder.

I suspect Vince Carter would have transferred after his freshman year had the rule been in place in 1996.
