You’re in denial if you don’t think is the new normal in college basketball.

Why did Vaseer leave Arizona? Why did the BE POY leave St. John’s?

Top players leave top programs for more money. It’s a business. I’m sure other factors come into play but this is pure free agency.

A different coach is going to be dealing with the same issues.
I can buy this IF you know Jackson is leaving for more money. Do we know that?

Exactly can't we just match or slightly better the offers? The football team has a huge budget and with new Republicans running the BOG, and BOT I doubt there will be any objections.

Money, money, money. Mooneey.

Unless IJ really doesn't believe he is being developed.
And there are plenty of external forces in these guys that ears. It’s the wild, wild, west out there.

You really have to hit in the portal. HS recruiting almost seems like a waste of time. If they shine they go pro, if they don’t they leave.

I agree with almost 100% of what you wrote. Maybe Rock needs to add a 95% like emoticon.

But the quoted line is where I have some qualms. There is no doubt that UNC would have the pick of a lot of good coaches, and as long as we don't UNC it up (ahem, Matt Doherty) we could get someone better than Hubert. But the UNC job has a lot of differences from most basketball jobs and it is not as though every successful coach will be successful in this environment. Also, there is the whole conference thing. If we were already in the SEC, I'd feel a lot better about our ability to draw coaches.

But not every coach hire by a blueblood is a Roy Williams to Bill Self homerun. Sometimes you get the Billy GIllespies before you get the John Caliparis. And then there is post Bob Knight Indiana. In other words, I don't think it is "certain" that we will improve the coaching deficit with a new hire. I think it is more likely than not. But there is a risk with such a move, too.

How about the same look at UK, KU, Michigan, d00k, etc.
Not sure. Have those schools produced a house-hold name in the league in the past 5 years? I think that's much more important to image.

I'm pretty sure that UK, Duke, and KU have all had more players drafted the past 5 years, but that's just a guess.

That's what I was trying to figure out with the 5 star recruits. Yeah, every school is having players transferring. Just wondering which one has had the most 5 stars transferring versus leaving early for the NBA. And it seems other programs are doing better replacing the players that leave compared to Carolina.

I absolutely loved that Ian Jackson was a Tar Heel. He was an electric offensive talent. It was really disappointing that he never showed the ability to consistently play good or even average defense. With Jackson on the floor this season, Carolina was outscored by 8 points. With Jackson not on the floor, Carolina outscored their opponents by 232 points.
