In a way, that would be humorous because most athletic departments lose money.
That's because they aren't run as businesses. I'd bet they would pull a lot more revenue if they were semipro and affiliated with but not managed by the university.

Also, costs would go way down if they had to stop flying across the country all the time.

I agree they aren’t run as businesses and a lot of cost-cutting would immediately happen.

The first cuts would be to non-revenue sports. ALL OF THEM. The only sports left will be football and Men’s basketball.

Even with such cuts, most schools likely lose money competing in football and Men’s hoops. The Wakes, App States, Western Carolinas, Citadels, Boston Colleges, Syracuses, etc. likely lose money even after drastically cutting expenses. Why? Their TV/media and attendance revenues plummet as demand shrinks.

Most college athletic departments just won’t ever be profitable.

Can someone bring me up to speed? Between work, kids' extracurricular activities, and the shitty new Bleacher Report app update, I'm a little behind. So who's staying? Who's going? And who's coming? Thanks in advance. I'll hang up and listen.

Trimble is the only player that has announced he's staying so far. Cadeau, Washington, and Jackson are transferring.

Thanks. And who have we landed in the portal so far? I keep hearing rumblings and opinions, but nothing official yet. Is that accurate?

Hear me out:

1. License the college logo to the newly semipro football and basketball teams. As the fan loyalty of those programs account for a lot of the revenue, one would expect the licensing fee to be high.

2. Use the license money to pay for the non-revenue sports.

3. Stop flying around the country. And expenses on tutoring would also plummet, though I'm not sure that's more than a tiny line item.

4. Demand doesn't have to shrink. It would if our team became the Chapel Hill Chaplains (since we already have a deacon, why not), but if it was UNC Basketball, LLC, I don't know how far demand would really drop.

I think it drops a lot if it’s not affiliated with the college.

Sigh... with all due respect. A little more size and much more shooting at the position

Haven't seen enough to know how he defends. Hopefully well because I get the feeling that will need to be this team's identity
