definitely but unless/until we add another player or two, he's probably right.
Maybe, but is he wrong?
I guess. But right now it doesn't look good.Adding another player or two is a given
Another high profile player changes the outlook completely
Considering the roster isn't final, they haven't "ended up" with anything. So, yes
It’s happening everywhere. Are you in denial of that?If they had stayed they would have probably started. You can be in denial all you want, but in reality this does not look good.
He sure could be. He’s not a soothsayer.Maybe, but is he wrong?
No, but what does that have to do with how good UNC is going to be and how good they are rebuilding compared to other programs? It’s happening everywhere. Are you in denial of that?
Yes, many other teams appear to be doing better in the portal. No, but what does that have to do with how good UNC is going to be and how good they are rebuilding compared to other programs?
Isn't the opposite true? That a free agency system makes it harder for the traditional programs to dominate, because all that is really needed to compete for recruits is $$? How could any up and coming school have competed in recruiting against the guy who coached MJ, Worthy and Perkins? But if they are allowed to pay, they can level the playing field. To me, there is absolutely no excuse that in a free agency system The University of North Carolina can't have its pick of basketball talent. That is a pretty inexcusable squandering of reputation, money, and potential.
He made a championship game and won the ACC without a single NBA level player as well.Hubert missed the NCAAT with RJ Davis and Armando Bacot. He was a hair away from missing the NCAAT with a roster that was ranked top 10 preseason. He’s not going to be able to do anything with rosters that are much less talented than the ones he has already squandered.
Yes, many other teams appear to be doing better in the portal.
But it's a real challenge when basically the whole team has to be replaced.
So now we need a SF, a SG, and I'm not that confident our PG is an upgrade.
Dman, I hope the staff is working some angles that we don't know about yet.
Yep, this oddly opened things up for the historically non-powers with loads of cash.Isn't the opposite true? How could any up and coming school have competed in recruiting against the guy who coached MJ, Worthy and Perkins? But if they are allowed to pay, they can level the playing field.
Add another quality player or two and let’s roll! Here's an analogy to my feelings on the matter.
Sometimes when I get a stomach bug, it creates a sort of weird nausea where I'm not sure whether I'm going to vomit or calm down with Tums, and both options are superior to lying in bed with a pounding stomach. I take the Tums, knowing it might make me immediately puke but that's a feature.
That's how I feel about the upcoming season. I just want clarity on HD's status. Obviously it would be better if we get the good "calm down" option and not the "puke all over everything" one, but either way at least it will be over (for now).
Yeah, most posters know that I’m not a Hubert fan, but I don’t have a problem specifically with the way he’s approached the portal this off-season.Sad part is they've done a fairly decent job in the portal. You just can't afford to return only 1 player
Hate to keep beating a dead horse but I think most would feel pretty decent if the backcourt right now was Cadeau/Ian
He is projected late first round by those in the know. If that changes after workouts, he will presumably come back. This is not a Harrison Ingram situation, who was going if he could get a second round assurance. Is anyone seeing Drake Powell in any NBA mock drafts? These mock drafts usually include any potential entrants until they declare they are not entering the draft. In fact, their presence in mock drafts is frequently a factor in their decision to remain in the draft.
I fear Drake is getting bad advice and he would have benefitted greatly from another year in college, while still getting paid handsomely for his services.
You got to wonder how fan appreciation affected them. Cadeau ,in particular, took a lot of grief. IJ rode a rollercoaster all year. Drake was always a possibility to go pro. In all honesty, I wouldn't have broken the bank for any of the three after last season. I'd have been glad to keep all three but superstar in the making isn't clear for any of them. They clearly have a lot of potential but a lot of that was just that.Yeah, most posters know that I’m not a Hubert fan, but I don’t have a problem specifically with the way he’s approached the portal this off-season.
Losing Cadeau and IJ (and now Powell) is what really hurts. Those guys aren’t perfect players by any means but they have the exact skillsets that the current roster badly needs.
