I guess it’s all relative. Obviously we don’t have unlimited money to grab any transfer we want and it’s possible for other programs to outbid us, but IC has been pretty consistent that any misalignment with our fundraising has been more or less addressed and that lack of money is no longer an excuse for the performance. While there’s no way to see the exact amount of money each program has at its disposal, the people who cover the sport that are most plugged into that sort of thing say we are in the top echelon of spenders this cycle:

I think the issue is, we may have 10 million or whatever but our roster is expensive. I have no idea how much anyone is getting but we have several players getting a million dollars, some more.

Add all those numbers up and you can’t afford to pay someone like Stojakovic $3 million or whatever he’s asking.

Understood, but that’s a far cry from not being able to afford to field a team lol. Almost every team is facing this sort of issue to a degree where they have to make decisions about where to allocate the money because their coffers aren’t unlimited.

Understand that there is a natural bias for fans to think their team is competing on an unlevel playing field and that if things were just even, their team would thrive.

Everybody thinks that way to an extent. It is why Christian Nationalists can claim with a straight face that they are mistreated in America.
 
Wilson, Veesaar, and Drake should he return, would be the highest paid players on many rosters

They probably overpaid for Evans and Trimble

Then you have Stevenson, J Powell, and VAL with all starter level/6th man market value

Closer to the highest paid roster than the average, I would guess

Yes, but probably not the ones ahead of us. The $10M club is misleading, because there's no upper limit. What if Duke has $50M? The distribution here is going to be more like MLB than NBA. There are probably a few very high rollers in a tier of their own.

I think the "afford to field a team" crack was just that -- a joke.

If I’d said “field 13 quality scholarship players” it would have been factually accurate.
 
I doubt we go after him, but Flanders would be a nice final piece, and would leave me feeling significantly more optimistic about our backcourt.
