If he's our starting PG, we're in for a long season.
He’s our starting PG.

And we probably are in for a long season - for a whole lot of reasons.

That said, we need to see who is actually on the roster before we can even predict next year’s results. And there are still some important TBDs out there.

Not sure I see that. Clayton has always been a more physical player; as a sophomore at Iona, he was listed 20 pounds heavier than Evans and was a lot more impactful defensively and as a rebounder. He also handled a much heavier usage load (albeit at a lower level than where Evans was playing). I see the similarities in their shooting profile but Evans will have to make a big lead to have that sort of "lead scoring guard" profile (and to be fair he did make a big jump in just about every category between his freshman and sophomore years, which gives some hope that he's on a steep development curve).
He’s not a clone but there are similarities.

You can hope all you want but Evans is definitely coming here with the expectation of being a starter, and that clearly is what Sherrell expects too. A better PG is not just going to fall into our lap. I'm not thrilled with the prospect of putting all our eggs in a Evans/Trimble backcourt, but I also don't think it's particularly likely that Xaivian Lee is coming at this point, and that's the only guy I can see on our radar who would push Evans to the bench
Makes one wonder if EC was expected to be next season's PG.

When did we get Ty Claude? I seem to recall there being plenty of portal activity over the summer. And we could pull in a foreign player at any time, I think.

We will get players.

Over 80 points separate the DI leader, North Carolina, and second place Stanford in the first winter Learfield Directors' Cup standings. The Tar Heels lead with 843.25 total points, while Stanford tallied 760.50 points.

North Carolina had a strong showing in the winter championships to date with two top 10 finishes (women's basketball and men's indoor track and field). Eight total teams have earned the Tar Heels points to date.

For what it's worth, Colorado State played a slow tempo last year. 270th in tempo, against our 47th. So that might put some of Evans' stats in a little bit different context. It's not a huge factor, but it's not nothing -- they had about 7.5% fewer possessions per game. So multiply his aggregate stats by 7.5% to get an apples to apples comparison.

Instead of 10.9 ppg, he would be closer to 12. 3.1 apg becomes about 3.4. Not mind-blowing differences, but a little bit.

And really, you should adjust for the second half of the season, as there was a very significant improvement over the course of the season.

I had read somewhere that he switched to lead guard by the end of the season and that stats for that period were pretty good.

Claude was August I believe but he was totally a depth piece. He rarely played.

Sure you can get players over the summer but I just don’t think many would anything more than deep bench players

Evans, Trimble, Dixon, Denis

Wilson, High*, Tyson*
