While I do have major concerns about the current roster, and I can get into it if anyone is interested, the staff were not caught off guard by this move. They've been working under the assumption that DP will be gone next year. Unless they have something going on behind-the-scenes, they feel like the players they're bringing in will cover the hole left by DP.

I'm gonna miss him.

DP is a 1 semester footnote.

HD is a Tar Heel lifer.
They're both Tar Heels forever to me. HD was one of my favorites as a kid. And my kids went to high school with DP. And I'll tell you I saw him so many times at my kids games (wrestling and lacrosse). He is so supportive of everyone around him. A truly great person. I'm so glad he's a part of the Carolina family.

Sad part is they've done a fairly decent job in the portal. You just can't afford to return only 1 player

Hate to keep beating a dead horse but I think most would feel pretty decent if the backcourt right now was Cadeau/Ian
yeah, i'd feel really good about a starting 5 of cadeau, jackson, j. powell, wilson and veesaar with trimble, stevenson, high, portal wing, portal guard and the frosh dixon/denis off the bench.

that would be strong. too bad elliot and ian are elsewhere.

You got to wonder how fan appreciation affected them. Cadeau ,in particular, took a lot of grief. IJ rode a rollercoaster all year. Drake was always a possibility to go pro. In all honesty, I wouldn't have broken the bank for any of the three after last season. I'd have been glad to keep all three but superstar in the making isn't clear for any of them. They clearly have a lot of potential but a lot of that was just that.
That almost definitely played a big role in Cadeau leaving. On the one hand, I think it’s lame on the part of fans to constantly dog players on social media (especially the ones that interact with them directly) and give them shit for poor play, especially when Cadeau was far from the only problem with last season’s team. At the same time, that’s hardly unique to UNC’s fan base. If you’re the PG for a high profile team and you’re struggling individually and the team is underperforming, you’re going to hear about it from the fans regardless of what school you’re playing for.

Hear your point and like I said, Cadeau and Jackson aren’t perfect players. To be fair though we’re also banking hard on potential with the guys we’re bringing in to replace them. After the way last season played out I think it was probably in the best interest of those 2 individually to move on to different situations, just think there’s a good chance we end up really missing them next season.

Yes, but who made the call on them? Was it the GM or HD? Somehow you have to make the money and goals fit together. I just hope we don't overcommit in any one direction until some of the murk clears and we know what we have to live with. I don't want to give away important parts of the program we can't get back.

Roster management is so much more complex under the current rules. Think they did a decent job in rebuilding the front court with some needed height (really hope they bring back Lubin). I'm less convinced with the backcourt and shooting in general. Trimble is not a good outside shooter. From all accounts Wilson isn't a good perimeter shooter either. No idea on Vassar...but having 3 non shooters in the starting lineup is a tough proposition. Even if the new pg is lights out shooter and Stevenson has some shooting....it feels like a team that will struggle to hit shots from the outside.

Every fan base is going to appreciate the players based on performance. Which sucks because they are people even if having a bad day or up and down season.

Their commitment to the university isn’t in the same stratosphere.

Good chance that group wouldn’t fit in the budget.
