It had to happen, obviously, but man it doesn’t feel good. All I can say is I hope this coaching search goes better than any major UNC coaching search this century. Please don’t let this turn into Kentucky’s circus.
UNC coach hires have been relatively quick and uneventful this century until Bill.

It's official.

"The University of North Carolina has made a leadership change in its men's basketball program. Hubert Davis, who has served as head coach for five seasons, will not return to coach the Tar Heels. The recommendation was made by Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham and Executive Associate Athletic Director Steve Newmark, who will transition to AD on July 1, and accepted by Chancellor Lee H. Roberts today."

Wow, it's a firing.

I guess HD wouldn't play ball with the resignation arrangement and the PTB decided it was time to put an end to the speculation.

Damn, I was hoping he's resign/retire.

So did VCU end Hubert? If the Heels win that game is he back?

Would winning that game and getting blasted by the Illini done it?

Man. I know this had to happen. And I advocated for it to happen after VCU. But I don't feel any joy or happiness at all. Only relief that a hard decision was finally made that will allow the program to move forward, and sadness that it ended this way for one of our all-time beloved Tar Heels. Sucks for such a nice guy to lose his dream job so publicly like this.

I understand and agree with the decision, but it makes me very sad. I love Hubert. I really wanted him to be successful and be our coach for a long time. He is a true Tar Heel. I know he loved the program more than anything and wanted to represent it as best as possible both on and off the court. I know this hurts him deeply, and I too am hurt.

Not worried about UNC getting an excellent coach.

The trick will be to get an excellent coach who has the gravitas and other sjills to manage the family and other issues.

Not t many of these out ther
If If we can't geStevenst , we neeed to get something close to him.

I think it was the totality of it all. Five years of consistent inconsistency. Including trailing by 10+ in something like 26 games in the past two years alone.

The program’s ceiling was lowered under Hubert. A change had to be made because, after five years of this, we’re no longer dealing with Schrödinger’s coach.

It’s unfortunate though because I really think Hubert was the right man to lead Carolina. He was just the wrong coach.

Yeah, I think this is how so many of us feel right now.

The money men better not screw up this hire. You GOTTA assume that as important as this hire is, if you're going to dig up the Dean Smith coaching tree like this, you better have your man ready to sign and now.
