This is a horribly coached team and an awful college "system." The team has no confidence or respect for their coach. They may like him, even a lot. But the players have no respect or confidence in him. After an entire season, the players are still confused, frustrated, and struggle with the basics; blocking out/rebounding, half court offensive movement, inbounding, DEFENSE, intensity for 40 minutes, and shot selection.

What I can't figure out is why the coach doesn't get credit for building the 19 point lead in the first place. It's idiotic to say, "the first 30 minutes showed we were a much better team and then HD blew it after." We were a better team as long as VCU wasn't making all those threes. We weren't when they were.

At the end of the day, the team lost a game to a team that was probably inferior overall. When it happens multiple times, coaches usually get fired. It doesn't mean it was definitely the coach's fault. It means that the program needs a change.
You have to win these games at UNC.

I refrained from expressing an overall opinion on Coach Davis (though most knew my stance) for the last several months now because the divisiveness wasn't worth it. However, there is absolutely no way I would support any furthering of his tenure here at Carolina. We need to find the best college coach available with pulling out all the stops financially and roll with it. Whatever it takes, do it. This cannot stand and it cannot be allowed to further fester.

It’s a consistent problem for Hubert coached teams to blow huge leads and lose. Hubert now owns the largest blown leads in the history of the first round and the championship game.

This is foolish. Henri Veesaar is 7 feet tall. If you think he can play the whole 2nd half without a sub and be fresh at the end of it you're crazy. And if you couldn't tell how tired we were down the stretch you weren't watching.
As I said, no well-conditioned college athlete should be exhausted given the ridiculous length of time-outs during NCAA Tourney games.

Trimble and Veesaar are crappy FT shooters throughout the season and throughout their careers. They didn’t miss because they were exhausted.

Now, the 5 second call, the confusion on offense and defense…..that’s on Hubert and the assistants.

An obvious concern when Hubert ascended to head coach was who he’d pick for his assistants.

Was anyone out there clamoring to hire Brad Frederick or Jeff Lebo or Sean May (yeah, people supposed when Sean was a player that he’d make a good coach; he’s only coached at UNC), or Pat Sullivan (always an afterthought coaching staff member and someone who likely got jobs because of the Coach Smith tree)? Hubert’s initial staff had huge question marks and it still does.

We’ve seen no change among the “coaching and recruiting” assistants (Lebo, May, Frederick

The championship game wasn't that shocking. Kansas was the better team and was bound to make a run in the 2nd half. The Heels actually battled back and retook the lead with under a minute to play.

Tonight was a much less explainable implosion.

The next coach after that.

Being a blue blood doesn't mean you'll always succeed, but it means you will almost certainly get more bites at the apple.
Right. This isn't controversial. You keep hiring coaches until you have the right one to lead us back to being an elite program.

To ignore the effect that fatigue can have on performance, no matter how well-conditioned you are, is simply foolish, as I said. Playing 6 guys the whole second half was foolish.

Why doesn't every coach just play their starters every minute if their players can maintain the same level of performance the whole way?

Or to do the opposite - come out sluggish, fall way behind, and then suddenly make a run but make key mistakes that cause them to fall short in the end. It's a definite pattern both ways at this point, and that's on the coach if it's happening over a long period of time, as this clearly has been.

Try watching Wemby. He's incredibly well conditioned, but he gets exhausted. NBA games have even more timeouts. It's hard to be tall and run
NBA games are 48 minutes.

NBA time-outs are not as long as NCAA Tourney time-outs.

Wemby battles grown-ass men; he’s 22. 7-foot, 4-inch guys aren’t yet grown-ass men. They’re skinny. I’ve seen Wemby listed at 235…..he’s more like Chuck Nevitt’s weight while at ncsulol.

Benches get shortened in single elimination games. dook only played 7 guys today. One of those was for just 9 minutes. Siena had 5 guys play 40.
