IIRC after the last searc, one RC insider said Stevens potentially had some interest.

Someone later said it was along the lines of "Willing to talk but only after MBA season over. Are his kids out of HS> His wife at least used to be his agent.
Yea
like we waiting 2-3months

It doesn't matter what role you're talking about, unless it's a role with no public-facing duties (which is directly opposite of most ambassador roles).

If HD is making public appearances on behalf of the University, it keeps him and the "removal" in the public eye. That almost certainly benefits almost no one.

Let him have some time and space to lick his wounds and process what has happened. Let him grieve the loss of his position and the hopes he had of continuing the Carolina Basketball tradition. Let him heal from all of it.

And then in a couple of years you can start the process of publicly re-integrating him into the Carolina Basketball family (provided he's interested). Do something to honor him and his time as coach. Welcome him back with open arms and let folks show him we still care. Have the new coach & admin include him.

Not giving him some kind of role right away isn't "unceremoniously dumping" him, it's giving everyone time to breathe and recover a bit before having to do much publicly. And it should be seen as a gift to everyone involved.
Yeah, if Hubert is let go, even if he was interested (and he won't be) there's no way you could have him stay around while a new coach is trying to get settled in and establish himself as the new head coach. It would be very unfair to the new coach to have Hubert hanging around in whatever role they placed him in, and frankly rather demeaning to Hubert as well. If he's being let go then he needs to go, period, and establish himself in a new job away from UNC (I think he'll go back into broadcasting). Hopefully he won't be too bitter about being let go (unlike Doherty) and at some point down the road he'll return and be honored in a game or ceremony. If nothing else he should always have the love of UNC fans for getting two of the biggest wins in program history over dook in 2022. When people think of Hubert's time as coach my guess is that as time passes and the memories of his specific seasons and games fade he'll always be fondly remembered for those two wins, imo.

My hope is that feelings will heal and relationships get mended and that we can eventually put up a Greek-style statue of HD killing a rat in honor of those games.

Gimme the Iowa state guy
OJ , TJ, Otzelberger-whatever his name is
Honestly, I think he's the most realistic option. I think several of the other options mentioned (Stevens) are wishful thinking, although there certainly seems to be a lot of people claiming that he's interested, or will be. But how much these people actually know is unclear at best. I think the same is true with Tommy Lloyd, given his success at Arizona he would be a promising hire, but while UNC is more prestigious it also brings much greater stress and expectations to succeed right away, so I'm doubtful as to his interest in the job. I guess we'll see.

While I would certainly would be excited about a Brad Stevens hire, I do also share some your pessimism. As you said, he has not coached college basketball in 15 years. He also didn’t coach college that long. While he did reach national championship games in a row, which is a great accomplishment, he did so in two of the weakest years of college basketball. He also had double-digit loss seasons in 2 of his last 3 seasons out of the 6 total seasons he coached in college (granted, he reached the national championship in the first of those), with his second to last being 22-15. In the years he did not reach the national championship, he never made it past the first weekend of the NCAAT.

Again, I’d be very excited if he were the hire, but I’m not sure he’s as proven as many people think.
That's exactly my thinking, and what I posted here several days ago. He was certainly a good coach with a promising future, but he's also not necessarily the slam dunk hire that many seem to think. He's not coached a single college game in fifteen years, and the sport has changed enormously since then. Maybe he could come in and do well right away as some seem sure he would, but he also might struggle with the adjustment after having been away for so long. I do think he would be a good choice given the available candidates, but I just don't think he's a "sure thing" hire as some believe. I certainly wouldn't place him on the same "sure thing" level hire that Roy Williams was in 2003. Hopefully if he is interested and is hired he will be as successful as many seem to think.

That’s kind of your agent’s job…to keep you in the mix for top opportunities. If I was TJO and my agent wasn’t contacting UNC when it looks like the job is coming open, I’d be firing him. These jobs are not like the jobs people like us apply for. They don’t get posted on indeed and they wait to get applications. If your agent isn’t back channeling for you then likely someone else gets the job before you can even express interest.

Well, I can see an agent reaching out via back channels, and maybe that's what heel4 meant, but he said "He reached out to us." I guess there's really not much difference b/w an agent reaching out and the coach himself doing it, but if I was an AD or big donor, I'd be pretty pissed if my coach was actively pursuing another job. Maybe it's naive for me to think that, but it does seem like bad form for the coach himself to be reaching out to other schools, esp. when he's got a game coming up tomorrow...

If you’re TJO you have probably told your agent a long time ago which jobs you are interested in IF they come open. And likely it’s his job to back channel for you in the event they happen (or are trending in that direction) so you can focus on your job. I’m sure he is focused 100% on prepping for his next game, knowing the agent will contact him with any pertinent news.
