I believe sherrel confirmed that Seth is not 3rd highest paid on the team, and that luka, evans, seth combined for over 4 million.
I don’t think we paid much for Jarin at all, probably was at the bottom of his market after last year. We’ve mostly misused him at the 3 but he’s a decent stretch 4
Decent stretch 4, if you overlook the fact that he doesn't really rebound and can't really shoot.

IMHO, the big miss was Evans. The idea was trading shooting and size for Elliot's playmaking (Cadeau was asking for more money, but I think he also soured on the fanbase). That shooting has not materialized...shooting substantially lower than last season.

Bogavac is about what I expected...if anything I wish he could shoot a little more. Think his biggest issue has been on the defensive end.
Stevenson is a bit of a weird fit, but he brings much needed size (poor rebounder for his size). Think he's more of an oversized wing than a post guy and we really don't have any quality depth behind Wilson and Vesaar. His shooting is pretty much what it was at Alabama.

At the time I was down that we pulled the cord on Jalen, think he would have been solid on this squad. The staff believed we were solid for Lubin for that spot...which was another bad loss when it happened. Jalen or Lubin as a third post would be a very welcome addition to this team.

Are James Brown and the big kid from High Point both hurt? Its unreal we have two schoolies allocated there and getting zero production.

Need to beat Syracuse and Virginia Tech, and at least one against Louisville, Clemson and Duke. Get to the semis of the ACC tournament and the Sweet 16 at least. I don't see why Hubert should be retained if they lose at least one game to Syracuse and VT, lose two to the others to end the regular season, and end up with a 6 seed or less and go out in the second round.

I saw this post on IC. Alarming.

-2021-2022 - Wake Forest 98 - 76 UNC and Miami 85 - 57 UNC: largest back to back losses in ACC conference play in UNC basketball program history
2022 is also skewed a little by the run at the end of the season. 3rd in the ACC is a good finish. 8 seed in the tournament is bad. The run to the championship game was great, and then they totally collapsed in the second half of the game.

2023 and 2025 were horrible.

2024 has really been the only season that was above average overall. They still got beat by a lower seed in the Sweet 16, though.

2027 looks a little better than 2022, but a little worse than 2024 overall. Still have to see how they finish the season and what happens in the tournament to know where it will end up compared to those two seasons.

The inconsistency is the big issue. I think overall it's been more mediocre at best than good to great under Hubert.

His splits as a 4 are pretty good and he’s way down the lists of roster construction issues imo but you’ve never been wrong so, sure.
I admit when I'm wrong more than anyone else here. But anyway, the sample size you are working with is incredibly small.

If we didn't pay much for him, then it doesn't really hurt except for taking up a roster spot. But he's averaging 2.4 defensive rebounds in 24 mpg. On a team that has been struggling to rebound, that's quite bad. And he's shooting 29.4% from 3 point range, after shooting 31.7 and 30.7 for Bama. That does not profile as a good stretch 4, no matter what a few dozen minutes of PT might indicate.

Again, the roster construction issues are basically three-fold, two of which are highly related: no consistent contributions from guards, bad shooting, and no depth in the post. Jarin hurts on shooting and doesn't really help elsewhere. The reason I point him out is that he's pretty much the same guy he was for the last two years. We should have been expecting this type of performance from him.

Evans and Bogo have been poor, but I wouldn't say getting them was necessarily a bad idea. Sometimes things don't work out. If you make a decision with an 80% chance of being right (that's a good percentage in real life!), it means 20% of the time that idea will be both smart and unfortunate.

So just making the tournament and going 3-5 to end the season is good enough now?
Just telling you what's going to go down.
Not how I would handle it necessarily.

As we've seen earlier in the thread, its very rare for a school, even a blue blood to make a coaching change after a 20+ win season (particularly combined with tourney spot).

I guess that means we're okay with mediocrity when it comes to Carolina basketball.

We've been a 3 man team all year

Cadeau shot better from the floor and had more assist/game in his Freshman and Soph years than Boga, Dixon, Evans, Young, and Powell this year. The rumor is he wanted 2 million in NIL to return for his junior year. Did we not want to pay him 2 million ?

I wonder what we paid for Boga, Dixon, Evans, Young, and Powell this year
Rell said 2 of 3, between EC, Seth, and IJ, wouldn't work together. Staff felt like Seth was the best fit of those three.

Obviously Caleb is gone after this season and it seems, no guarantee, that Henri will not be back next year either. We have two highly rated recruits coming in; however, from what analysts have written, it seems that neither of those players are immediate impact players on the level of Caleb (and yes, that is rare to get that level of impact, but it does seem the two incoming recruits need a bit of time, and yes that includes Mingo). So in a way, potentially the core of next year's team, sans Trimble, was on the floor last night, which means we are in a position to again need a lot of help from the portal.

Good chance Stevenson will be back, IMO. Dixon, Powell, and High too. Luka? I don't know...
Given how little run Denis has gotten, would anyone be shocked if he left?

So next year we have Stevenson, Dixon, Powell, High, maybe Luka and maybe Young? Going to need a pg and a big from the portal. And going to need some depth.

Feels like every year they have guards and need big men, or have big men and need guards. Can't ever get both, and the bench is always a problem.
