Losing to SMU in the abstract is not a bad loss. Losing the way we did was bad.

During that five-game stretch to start ACC play, we were something like 225th nationally in defensive efficiency. It looked like our defense had completely fallen apart, and Caleb was one of the biggest issues. We've righted the ship since then but it was absolutely jarring to see what had previously been a solid defensive team just...collapse all of a sudden, even accepting that shot luck probably had something to do with it.

It was a bad stretch for sure. The team has rebounded from it pretty well.

We would have likely finished just as bad if Mack was coaching, but regardless just because a bad hire was made doesn't mean we should keep under performing coaches because it could be worse.

I think the consensus of IC , baring an embarrassing meltdown, is that he will be back Doing "pretty darn good" w/t Caleb shows he can coach. Of course there are blobs of posters that say he just stinks, is horrible blah blah

I really don't think invoking Dean is helpful at all here. Let his legend live in peace. Nobody actually knows what he would think, so this will end up as one of those Cultural Revolution style fights about who is most loyal to Mao Dean. I guess we all have our own opinions on what Dean's take would be, but @heel79 seems to have some special access into the spirit of Dean and is able to communicate with him directly for definitive answers to these thorny questions.

Why are you so certain Dean would align perfectly with Roy? For that matter, do you know how Roy feels about HD's tenure?

Edit: I agree with Super, that this is probably not going to be a fruitful avenue in the discussions....unless you can chat with Roy, then I'd be interested to know how he feels about HD's tenure to date.

Man if you are going to tell people what I think, do better. I have said I was concerned if he was fired by current leadership, it would be framed as race related. No matter. He is not getting fired this year.
