Many UNC fans expect perfection in football. Tar Pitters expect a double digit win season every year and even then a double digit win season is often disappointing and so Tar Pitters have wanted to fire every coach going back to Mack Brown 1.0 ( Yeah he wins a lot of games but he can't beat F$U )Mack was fired way too late and it was obvious he needed to go ...not sure the point you're trying to make there.
It was a bad stretch for sure. The team has rebounded from it pretty well.Losing to SMU in the abstract is not a bad loss. Losing the way we did was bad.
During that five-game stretch to start ACC play, we were something like 225th nationally in defensive efficiency. It looked like our defense had completely fallen apart, and Caleb was one of the biggest issues. We've righted the ship since then but it was absolutely jarring to see what had previously been a solid defensive team just...collapse all of a sudden, even accepting that shot luck probably had something to do with it.
I forget the details but it was in Mack 1s last year We had a good team , maybe ranked top 10? Packed stadiums -rahrahMany UNC fans expect perfection in football. Mack was fired too late ? Are you happy we did and we were able to nab super coach Uncle Bill who led us to a 4-8 record and finishing just ahead of BC and SY at the bottom of the ACC ?
That's my point . Too many UNC fans can't appreciate a good or even a very good season. It has to be a near perfect season. Otherwise the coach, team, and season are garbage.
Git down 14-0. Fans booed. I think we won 50-14...Mack was pissed. Left. We beat vpi 42-3 in gator.I forget the details but it was in Mack 1s last year We had a good team , maybe ranked top 10? Packed stadiums -rahrah
Anyway we lose against a really good opponent-My guess is that was FSU or Clemson
That was it for the fans"We aren't going to the Orange Bowl-not gonna win a Natty" So Duke game half empty
Shittiest football fans ever
We would have likely finished just as bad if Mack was coaching, but regardless just because a bad hire was made doesn't mean we should keep under performing coaches because it could be worse. Many UNC fans expect perfection in football. Carolina Basketball, as Dean defined it, was never meant to be fragile. It was never meant to settle.
I think the consensus of IC , baring an embarrassing meltdown, is that he will be back Doing "pretty darn good" w/t Caleb shows he can coach. Of course there are blobs of posters that say he just stinks, is horrible blah blahI don’t read 247 or IC but has there been any news or insider tips or whatever regarding Hubert and his job prospects next year?
We do know what Dean would think. He wrote about it. Not sure what 30 years ago has to do with it. There are those that believe that the university should reflect dean's valuesI really don't think invoking Dean is helpful at all here. Let his legend live in peace. Nobody actually knows what he would think, so this will end up as one of those Cultural Revolution style fights about who is most loyal toMaoDean. And it doesn't really matter what Dean would think anyway. He was our coach 30 years ago.
The consensus appears to be that short of a complete meltdown, he's safe.I don’t read 247 or IC but has there been any news or insider tips or whatever regarding Hubert and his job prospects next year?
He wrote about what he would think about retaining a former player as coach after at least a couple of shaky seasons in a world where players are paid seven figures and transfers are free? Really? We do know what Dean would think. He wrote about it. Not sure what 30 years ago has to do with it. There are those that believe that the university should reflect dean's values
You have to understand that @heel79 repeatedly claims to know WWDD in response to all sorts of current issues in college sports. I guess we all have our own opinions on what Dean's take would be, but @heel79 seems to have some special access into the spirit of Dean and is able to communicate with him directly for definitive answers to these thorny questions. He wrote about what he would think about retaining a former player as coach after at least a couple of shaky seasons in a world where players are paid seven figures and transfers are free? I don't like originalism in the law, and I don't like it in athletic policy either.
No I have argued that the ones who want him out are fringe and would need a gps to find chapel hill. Now they are loud. The consensus appears to be that short of a complete meltdown, he's safe.
Of course, @heel79 would have you believe that there is a shadowy cabal of MAGA-loving politicians that are hell-bent to take down Hubert. I've been skeptical of this angle for awhile.
Why are you so certain Dean would align perfectly with Roy? For that matter, do you know how Roy feels about HD's tenure? While you’re invoking Dean, how do you think he’d view the current situation with HD? Because my guess is he’d be perfectly aligned with Roy on his view.
There’s a poster here who, while conceding that point, dismisses it as bias and nepotism. As if you guys know more about Carolina basketball and culture than Dean and Roy, and their silly misguided biases.
Google is your friend. He wrote about what he would think about retaining a former player as coach after at least a couple of shaky seasons in a world where players are paid seven figures and transfers are free? Really?

What issue other than Hubert's future have I invoked dean? You have to understand that @heel79 repeatedly claims to know WWDD in response to all sorts of current issues in college sports. Not at all like those fake Christians who insist they know exactly WWJD in response to a modern problem.

Man if you are going to tell people what I think, do better. I have said I was concerned if he was fired by current leadership, it would be framed as race related. No matter. He is not getting fired this year. The consensus appears to be that short of a complete meltdown, he's safe.
