Not only fire CHD but the entire coaching staff
Make it clear to the next HC we don't care about the tradition of Carolina family
Make it clear we no longer care about promoting our reputation as a public Ivy in our recruiting
Make it clear we don't give a rat's ass about graduating players
Make it clear that we don't mind scandals as long as those don't rise to a criminal prosecution

Offer the next HC a 5 year contract of 8 million plus incentives for beating dook** and ncst , winning 30 games and the ACCT, making the FF, and winning the NCAAT
Guarantee that the HC will have a "buy the player " annual budget of 25 million/year

With that pitch , I think Kelvin Sampson would consider becoming our next HC

I was concerned about experience but okay with the hire because I trusted Roy’s judgement and hoped sitting beside Roy for years would impart some skills that HD never had an opportunity to develop and demonstrate on his own as a head coach. And, despite not being an alum, an employee of UNC or ever having lived in NC, I grew up watching and admiring Dean Smith and the tradition of success and character UNC represented. I wanted to see the direct lineage to Smith (and Naismith) maintained for purely romantic reasons. Sadly, all of college sports has devolved into an impure, cynical, transactional beast that renders most all of that history a quaint, rapidly fading memory.

Now I’d settle for just seeing some good teamwork and smart basketball. HD hasn’t delivered much of either. If he’s given another year, I hope for the best and will pull for him, but zero tears will be shed if he’s pushed out.
Pretty much everything has turned into crap since 2020, college football and basketball included.

UNC deserves it because UNC has earned it. UNC and the Carolina fanbase have done their jobs. They have provided the facilities, the resources, the history, the brand recognition, and the patience. The coaching staff has not. That's my opinion.
You earn it every day. The past is the past.

The staff obviously goes with Hubert. That's normally how it works anyway. New guy brings in his people.

I want the next coach to have little to no ties to UNC.

We need new blood, as a program. UNC basketball has kept it in the family long enough that we're bordering on inbreeding.

I would like them to look at T. J. Otzelberger and Dusty May. I don't think May would leave Michigan right now, though. Maybe put a feeler out for Brad Stevens and Jay Wright, but I don't know if they would be willing to ever go back into coaching now. Stay away from Golden at Florida and Oates at Alabama. I used to like Oates, but he has had too many issues off the court, and Golden is a creep who stalked women. Maybe take a look at Fred Hoiberg and the High Point coach. Otzelberger would be my top choice for a current young coach who has had success.

This feels like a “touch grass” moment, as the kids say. You act like making a coaching change means we are going to automatically regress to 80s SMU or 90s/2000s Miami football.

Believe it or not you can have a coach that does things the right way and respects the rich tradition of a program even if they didn’t graduate from the university. Yes, it’s that much more gratifying when the coach that takes the program to the mountain top also has that connection as an alum like a Roy Williams or Kirby Smart, but those examples are usually the exception to the rule. It gets messy when programs try to force that with a coach that is clearly over their head.

Some of our fan’s perception of a coaching transition is so warped because we were fortunate enough to have an alum that was already a HOF caliber coach waiting in the wings in Roy. People now act like the UNC head coach position is a monarchy that has to get passed down to someone with a connection to the previous coach lol.

We will know when a new one is chosen.

Now that the season is over I think the time is right to suggest potential candidates.

I'll start with Tommy Lloyd- would be a home run, unlikely to leave Arizona
You never know. Was it not true Roy had a new AD at Kansas whom he did not like? Weird stuff happens at jobs and people want to move on sometimes?
I do think we will be approaching 9-10 mill a year for a big name

I think it's hard to overstate how big last night's debacle is.

If you had asked me at 6:49p yesterday, I would have said that I thought HD would be back next season, albeit under a greater "win or else" mandate than this year.

I now don't see much way that he can be the coach next year.

The game was everything that HD's critics complain about, on the biggest stage, in a magnified form. It's like it was custom-made to point out why his detractors are ready to move on.

It's a stunning, stunning outcome for a single game.

What's crazy is that until the collapse the game was going in exactly the opposite direction, or at least to a place that would at least silence the "dump davis" folks for one more game.

yep. just an absolute worst case scenario result for HD.
