I believe Musk’s actions are harming Tesla’s stock price

Tesla's future is pretty bright. It's certainly not going out of business anytime soon. And while the price of the stock has fallen quite dramatically, it also rose quite dramatically post election and it is still about 44% above its 52 week low.

Cynically speaking, Musk's proximity to the full might of the United States federal government will almost certainly yield positive dividends for the company. I'm not condoning any of this - just noting that the talk of Tesla's demise are very premature.

Tesla DOES have a branding issue right now...but the public is fickle and that branding issue can turn on a dime.

I'm not suggesting you should buy Tesla stock - it's PE is insane. But it is an important company and well positioned for the future beyond simply providing standard EVs.

Stock is down $50/share since election day and down $ 175/share since Trump took office. And the anti Musk/ tesla sentiment is just beginning to take hold.

I'm not suggesting Tesla will end up being the next Yugo, but the trend at this point should concern Musk as more and more automakers are competing in the ev market.

BYD is boasting a 5 minute wait to charge its battery and at a cost of around $12,000 You can't buy one, but buyers in China can

I recently saw BYD in Portugal. Good looking, inexpensive SUV. I think they would sell like crazy in the U.S.
Re: Tesla stock- a lot of the share price is based on non- auto sales factors; robotics, self driving technology, Elon is a visionary, etc. Musk has been promising these things without delivering (everyone will have a $30,000 Optimus robot!) for years. Ultimately he will be recognized as the fraud he is and Tesla stock will tumble. I don't see that happening in the next four years.

They must be working on a model of convenience and rapid replacement. Batteries that charge that fast can’t possibly be durable, yeah? What say our chem and physics folks?

Yes - the stock is down. It shot up nearly 100% in a month after the election. Talking actual dollars kind of misses the picture of a stock that benefited from a near hysterical run up over a short period of time. It's current price - while significantly off its high - is still well above its 52 week low. There is a lot of schadenfreude regarding Musk and rightfully so - and a lot of people shitting on the brand explicitly because of Musk...and that's fair. I don't think it is accurate to say the anti-Musk sentiment is "just beginning to take hold." It's most likely at its apex right now. But that's subjective conjecture.

There really aren't any major domestic competitors for Tesla right now (though Hyundai and Kia are making inroads (???)) - and the Chinese suppliers are banned in the USA. As I note in my post - I think Tesla is well positioned in the market as well as positioning itself for products beyond simple mass market EVs, but it certainly has issues it will need to address long term. The BYD fast charging break through - if real - is a major milestone for the industry and of course Telsa will have to catch up.

Agree and disagree. The anti musk sentiment isn't exactly nascent. It's also unlikely at its peak. The destruction he has wrought to the economy hasn't truly filtered into the data and lived experiences, and Musk is likely to ramp up his edge-lord trolling and outright white supremacist beliefs as this regime turns up the volume on repression and oppression.

Anti-Musk sentiment really took off with his purchase of Twitter, but that doesn’t really affect too many people who never used Twitter. Making simple things more difficult for people, threatening their livelihoods and causing economic damage to small communities is the sort of thing that will make it a near universal phenomenon. Much of the anger I’ve seen in clips of town hall meetings that congressional Republicans is centered around Musk and DOGE and his character flaws don’t offer much hope that he will moderate his actions. If anything, he seems more likely to double down.

Yeah, it's not like this is beyond correction but more that Musk is unlikely to want to. He's on some sort of mutual power trip with Trump and it seems like it's going to be "Ride or die."

So, he's not looking to hurt anyone, he just wants to get himself arrested and charged with lots of serious crimes.

Florida is a stand your ground state and I believe is one of the Red States that made it legal to hit protesters with your vehicle if you feel “threatened” — this guy probably thought he was acting within his rights. 🤷‍♀️

I told y'all my brother "totaled" his Tesla recently (basically scraped the front quarter panel on a trailer and the whole front end crumpled up like tin foil), he wants to get his kids and some of their friends to stage an attack on his car with smoke bombs and make it appear they damaged the car. He's going to run out in his Maga hat cursing them and then they're going to ostensibly beat him to a pulp. Let that make the rounds on social media and watch Maga's head explode, then he'll reveal that it was all staged. They're not really going to do that but I thought it was a kinda funny idea...

I do wish they would not include violence or vandalism in the protest.

Wonder how that would play out if one of the threatened protestors stood their ground and shot the guy? The right would be torn between disavowing a protestor or supporting a good guy with a gun.

The staged event would go viral, but the reveal would not. Once a false narrative takes hold, the truth doesn't stand a chance. You would still be hearing about the libs trashing a Tesla 2 years from now.
