IC going to On3

When you have a customer base set up on membership auto-renewal, there is a decent amount of risk in introducing a hard break into that membership.
Been a paying member at IC for years and for them to just bail with almost no announcement except for a "farewell 247" story a day before is kind of sucky.

It was almost a constant discussion for the past month that IC was going to On3 after On3 issued the press release in early July. IC was gagged by 247 and not contractually allowed to say anything until 8/1

Seems like at least some cranky bitter folks stayed at 247, hopefully they stay there and On3 will be a little lighter for a while.

Just FYI for everyone, from what I'm reading it appears that if you're a subscriber at 247 and have a decent number of months left on your 247 subscription as of 8/1 that On3 is adding that number of months to your On3 subscription if you purchase an annual membership there.

I think that's in addition to the $1 through October deal.

Not a perfect solution, but it seems like IC has worked out a reasonable way to try to make it up to folks who had renewed at 247 before IC's departure was announced.

I saw a few people posted that. I think On3/IC should have made that official policy rather than have loyal customers go through customer service on a one-off basis, but I was confident that IC would take steps to protect annual subscribers who got screwed by the timing.

I have been tracking the traffic the last couple of days since the switch. There is still more traffic here than both the free boards at IC and TH247. The new IC board has more than the TH247 board.

That is good.

One thing that's a little surprising to me is that existing IC subscribers didn't get some sort of email from IC about the transition (either before or after it happened) and why we should move over with them to On3. It's possible that the terms of the contract between 247 and IC meant that IC didn't maintain access to and/or wasn't allowed to use its list of current subscribers, though.

My speculation is the user email info is likely locked behind 247 controls, which were locked out the second the gag order was lifted.
