IC going to On3

I have seen basically no ads with Chrome and AdBlock. I'm sure others have not had it so good. The only ad I see is at the bottom on the app. And if I use Safari on my phone, I don't even see that.
I'm using Firefox and uBlock and I don't see any ads either.

But a lot of folks aren't tech savvy enough to use an adblocker and will be deterred by the presence of so many ads. It's a terrible idea from a marketing perspective.

Oh I agree. So hopefully Ben and Buck got a good deal because they will likely shed 25% of their membership with this transition. They may reclaim some of that over time (and even more if Bill or Hubert exceed expectations) but running a listicle inspired ad-fest is not a good business model for enticing new customers.

Is Buck Stops here supposed to be free to the public? Or is that an accident? Not complaining since it is sometimes interesting, sometimes amusing.

I've been around for 20+ years and folks are throwing shade that I wouldn't have guessed.

It looks to me like there are a healthy number of folks who have been on IC who've had their hands slapped over the years and never gotten over it. And now that they have an opportunity, they're getting their shots in. (If being an IC mod taught me anything, it's that there are a lot more folks out there than I would have thought who get personally offended at being told "no", who will get really indignant about it, and will apparently carry a grudge afterward.)
I work with some people who are serious grudge collectors... it's a really horrid personality trait... truly toxic for team dynamics.

Haven’t joined On3 and cancelled by subscription to 247, though I still have access to all the boards there. Went back to 247 to read a few threads. Think I might be done with all the sports boards. A lot of miserable people posting there (not all but too many), and not sure that’s the company I want to keep. End of an era for me.

Maybe things will change when the games start, but I’m not nearly as drawn to this new era of college sports.

I enjoy most of the folks here and am happy to be here.

Checked the IC and THI boards. Both the IC ZZL and THI lounge are pretty dead. The IC ZZL only had three posts on it so far today.
Things are getting spread too thin right now. Overall traffic is not enough to support 3 different platforms, with multiple boards on each platform. Consolidation will happen. There will not be enough money around for both 247 and On3 to stay staffed up at the levels they are throwing at things to try and win the subscription wars right now. One or both will cut back significantly, and the cards will fall as they may. My guess is that there will be a clear winner/loser by year end... probably sooner. Granted, it's possible enough people lose interest such that neither ultimately survives...

Yeah, the amount of traffic is definitely down. I don't ever remember a time where there were nearly 20 minutes in between posts on IC. People are complaining about the changes on both boards. It could partially be because it's still the offseason, but it was never was like this before. It will be interesting to see how it is once the seasons start. Hopefully it just pushes the negative and toxic posters away.

Is On3 loading VERY slowly for anybody else? It's taking forever for threads to load when I click on them, then as I scroll down I still have to wait for individual posts to load.

Unless 247 was about to go bankrupt or something, it seems weird that IC chose now to move.

I’m with you. I hope this board will fill that gap but I’m done with sports boards.

IC would have to wait until their contract with 247 was up to move, which means they didn't pick the July/August end date, and re-upping with 247 would have meant at least one more year, if not multiple years, as part of the 247 network.

There is a lot of uncertainty around 247 since they are part of the greater Paramount conglomerate that Skydance is acquiring. While I don't have any inside knowledge, I am guessing that uncertainly played a decent role in IC's decision to move to On3. The new Skydance-Paramount combo will be looking to aggressively cut costs and there is likely not a great deal of clarity of what that means for 247 and its team sites. I can see how that would have given IC a significant push toward finding a new network.

I do wonder if IC underestimated how many folks would be willing to take on the work of signing up at a new board and learning a new software to follow them to On3. No offense to anyone, but IC's customer base has seemed to me to be aging and not terribly tech savvy. I remember how rough previous board transitions have been and that was with IC having the ability message folks ahead of time about the changes and users not having to actually expend the effort to sign up at a new site. I know that a lot of customers have been loyal to IC throughout the decades and moves, I wonder what IC's projections were concerning how many would move over against whatever that turns out to be in reality.

Also, 247 got very, very fortunate that On3 had purchased Rivals and ended Rivals association with Andrew Jones/THI. If AJ had been locked into Rivals when 247 lost IC, they'd have had a much harder time regrouping under a new publisher and trying to keep all of IC's former subscribers at 247.

Based on some things altmin has said regarding the uncertainty with what Skydance will ultimately do with 247 it was probably wise to leave for On3, although that may not have had anything to do with the decision.

The Skydance folks take over tomorrow, so I am guessing we'll start hearing what the restructuring will be besides the top executives.

I have no idea if it will happen, but it would be deliciously ironic if at the end of the day the most active UNC off-topic board is this one, especially given how IC screwed the ZZLP twice - first by separating politics from the ZZL, and then by eliminating the ZZLP from their board completely. It would be fitting, imo, if this board (which is great, btw) becomes the most popular UNC non-sports forum.

By the looks of things it is right now.

What are the three? There is 247 and On3. What is the third?
