Anti-ICE protester blinded by federal agent during demonstration in Santa Ana, family says

“…Jeri Rees said her 21-year-old nephew underwent six hours of surgery and that doctors found shards of plastic, glass and metal embedded in his eyes and around his face, including a metal piece lodged 7 mm from a carotid artery.

“That could have cost him his life,” Rees said. “But now, for the next six weeks, he can’t sneeze or cough because it could do a lot of damage.”

She said doctors did not want to remove the shrapnel near the artery out of fear that it could kill him. …”

If I could put on my ambulance chaser hat, I'd take that case in a second. Dude is going to be very rich unless the Supreme Court or Congress interferes. A Santa Ana jury will hammer ICE.

In fact, I'd love to get into the suing ICE specialty. That is going to be a very lucrative specialty for the next three years.

I'd almost put money on the idea that SCOTUS largely grants ICE immunity over the next few years.

I don't think it will be absolute, but I'm betting it'll be a high, high bar for success.

You would have to pry it out of Panish's cold dead hands.

So all of those Venezuelan immigrants who supported Trump in 2024 (and I know one), and even if they couldn't vote tried to influence those who could, are now being told to go home because Maduro is gone and they're no longer wanted or allowed to stay here. I wonder how they feel now?

Too arrogant to admit they were wrong because they were taking a victory lap a week ago.

I think you are probably correct. I also think by the time such a case makes it too the Supremes the country will be too far gone to matter. Miller and his apparatchiks understand that enforcement of law requires a monopoly on violence and Miller knows he has it. He will care not one bit what a few fogies in goofy costumes have to say.
