It would be so nice if we had a functional opposition party right now. Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries are unfathomably feckless subservient cucks of the highest magnitude. The President of the United States has his own personal Schutzstaffel that is going around pepper spraying high school students and blowing the faces off of soccer moms. Maybe now is not the time for strongly worded letters of disappointment or following the rules like good little boys!

Does the board think Schumer should be replaced? His opposition has been so docile. I can't understand what has happened to him.

SIAP, but I thought this anecdote from a recent Atlantic piece (I believe it's a transcript of a podcast or other audio interview) was infuriating. This is utter lawlessness - blatant disregard for the constitutional rights of Americans (much less basic human dignity).

I was driving to my workplace, where I work as a contracted security guard. When I pulled up, there’s just cars on that entire road, bumper-to-bumper—people getting out, just cars driving around each other. And I was like, All right, well, I just need to make it to work. So I make my way through, and it’s just this roadblock of ICE agents just standing across the road.

There’s people banging on trash cans and just yelling and stuff. I got out and I stood right by my car. I’m basically yelling at them, like, I’m a U.S. citizen. I’m a veteran. I’m just trying to get to work. I’m not protesting. I’m just trying to get to work. I thought everything was gonna be okay, and they just were hostile from the get-go.

Like, You’re not going to work today. Get back in your car. Leave. So I end up getting back in my car, and they just all start walking in a line towards me, and they just surround my car. I have the agents on the side trying to pull on my door handles, trying to open my car door, yelling at me to get out, and the agents in the front of my car are telling me to reverse, contradicting what these other agents are telling me to do.

They end up throwing tear gas. And I’m in there choking, trying to plead with them, like, I can’t see; my car’s engulfed in smoke, and eventually they hit my window again, and it just shatters. Immediately, the moment it shatters, another agent sticks his arm through and sprays me in the face with pepper spray.

They just dragged me out of the car, threw me on the ground. They just immediately kneeled on my neck and back. There’s maybe four or five other agents just standing around us, just watching as they do this. And the entire time, they’re just questioning, like, Why was he arrested? basically. Like, they were confused themselves.

Eventually, they put me back in this unmarked SUV, and then they end up driving me to the detention facility in downtown L.A. They strip-search us, they do our fingerprints, take our pictures. My hands are burning. My face is burning from tear gas still, and the entire time I was in there, no phone call, no lawyer, no shower. No nothing.

I was detained for three nights and three days. That Saturday was my daughter’s third birthday party, and that was probably the worst feeling ever. She’s my princess. It was just terrible.

So Sunday, a guard ends up coming up and is just like, You’re off, like, He’s getting released, and that’s all he says. That was it. They’re like, You’re free to go. All the charges had been dropped; you’re free to go. And I just asked them, “So I basically was locked up and missed my daughter’s birthday for no fucking reason?” And they just were silent. They just stayed silent. I was given no explanation, no apology, just: That’s it.

I think the entire leadership apparatus of the Democratic Party needs replaced. Schumer and Jeffries make Neville Chamberlain look like a hardass. They are so unimaginably feckless and impotent. To borrow a quote from the Joker in the Dark Knight, they have all these rules and they think those rules are going to save them. It's time to get them the eff out of leadership and get people in there who are willing to take the fight to the Republicans. Those people do exist, and there is a whole lot of people in our country thirsting to be led by them.

Chuck should step down as minority leader and finish out his term as a Senator before retiring in 2028.

Durbin is the # 2 in leadership and is retiring in January 2007 ( Yay ! )
Klobuchar is the #3 and is likely to run for governor this year
Booker is the #4

Chris Murphy was added to the leadership this year and would be my choice to replace Schumer
Booker would also be a good choice

I am an ABS ( anybody but Schumer )

"DEEPLY DISTURBING"!!!!!!!!!

FWIW I don't think that sort of tweet response to people like Murkowski is particularly prouductive. Yes, she's a hypocrite. Yes, she has enabled a lot of what the Trump admin has done. Yes, she and Susan Collins love to talk about how "disturbed" they are, then do fuck all about it. But it is not realistic to demand, or expect, a more aggressive statement than the one she made at his stage of the process (like 2 days after this happened). I don't want to further increase the blurring of lines between "US Senator" and "shitposter." We don't need Lisa Murkowski tweeting "This is murder. defund ICE" and it's not going to happen anyway.

Totally fair and valid points.

I think it's past time for Schumer to go. I don't think he's currently as effective a minority leader as Dems need, whether due to age or the fac that he's still trying to play an old game that looks a lot different now.

I also think people tend to overestimate what Dems can actually do as the minority opposition party right now, especially because the Trump admin has almost no actual legislative agenda. IMO their top three priorities right now should be (1) behind-the-scenes influence campaign to try to persuade/coerce their more moderate Republican colleagues to join them on various actions and pieces of legislation, (2) public messaging highlighting the oversteps, overreaches, and destructive action; and (3) doing everything possible to win the midterms so that the Dems can significantly increase their practical ability to oppose the Trump admin over its last two years.

I don't know if that is an accurate figure or not, but there is an obscene amount of tax dollars being spent on "border security" at the expense of affordable healthcare.
Might not be that far off which is shocking to me. $50B for border wall plus additional money's for enforcement personnel and detention beds.

There are much cheaper and more humane ways of doing this and Congress should have done it a long time ago but Trump went with the most extreme way.
