Wrong. We've been through this before. The Democrats have no power to do ANYTHING. They can't actually shut down any funding bills; the GOP could at any point just remove the filibuster or Trump could just do what he wants and nobody can stop him.

What the Dems CAN actually do is influence the political mood and conversation. And the last shutdown was a home run. They wanted to call attention to health care and its unaffordability and the Obamacare subsidies. And boy did they do that. All the talk about affordability in general is a product of the last shutdown. Inflation hasn't changed much in 3 months but the public's attitude sure has, and that was because of the Dems' shutdown.

That's all we can reasonably expect. Schumer hit a home run with the last one.

Meanwhile, do people actually want Dems to go on record saying "abolish ICE"? Fuck no. There is NO UPSIDE to doing that. Anyone who is alarmed by ICE is hopefully already extremely motivated to vote. But there are GOPers who are souring on Trump but are also afraid of extremism. My mom is one. I think she's going to be be voting Dem this year -- definitely will be voting for Cooper. But she absolutely would not vote for any "abolish ICE" candidate. To us, abolishing ICE is rationality; to her, it seems like open borders scary liberal type stuff.

I think most posters here -- including myself -- should refrain from judgment on political strategy of the minority party. I mean, you literally have no idea what you're talking about. The Dem leadership has access to all sorts of information about public opinion, broken down I am sure by specific locations and demographics. We have jack shit. It's like the debate about coaches. You're harsh on Belichick, despite his accolades, but fine. You did play varsity football at UNC. Did you play varsity "get out the vote"?
 
Maybe she and her wife had an argument and that's why the wife got out of the car. Then looks like she might have been trying to make a u-turn in the middle of the road. I don't think the reason she had her car in the middle of the road had anything to do with protesting ICE.

Do you not think she would have met the same fate if she had done the same thing back then? You have to be deeply influenced by a specific narrative to act the way she did. An armed federal agent, or any law enforcement officer with a weapon, can use lethal force if you refuse to follow instructions. Again, where was the outrage during the Biden administration? Finally, the owner and administrators of this board should be ashamed. The hatred you condone and allow here is disgusting. Just because you hate Trump and because your party lost by a significant margin is no excuse for this shameful behavior. I've never seen as many abhorrent 'sore losers' on any online forum and that's saying something. You are aware that children can view this board without a membership? It's never been about getting rid of violent criminals. ICE is just randomly stopping people with brown and black skin and arresting people that are even American citizens because they are racist dickheads.

I suspect they are being trained to give contradictory orders. My concern is their handlers are intentionally offering up a bunch of hyper charged idiots the opportunity to justify all levels of violence through “non compliance”. A “non-compliance” that was always impossible to comply with.

You’re 100% right about all of this, I know that. I completely recognize that I’m being emotional, reactive, knee jerk, prisoner of the moment, all of that stuff. I know it. I’ll try to rein it in a little bit because I’m definitely getting out over my skis talking about stuff about which I don’t understand. I’m just so fed up with what appears to me to be feckless, ineffective leadership. But I also probably need to understand that the Democrats in positions of what limited power they have right now can’t necessarily afford come out guns blazing rhetorically right now, whereas I recognize that have the luxury of being able to be a keyboard warrior armchair quarterback of sorts. It’s just really hard right now not to feel completely downtrodden and disheartened so I suppose I’m lashing out foolishly

I was watching a debate on Wednesday, and a maga guy was on there, and when confronted with the fact that trump bragged about barging in on 15 & 18 yr old teenagers in their dressing room on the howard stern show in the 2000s, this maga guy was asked if it was wrong that trump did this. The guy chose to say that no it wasn't wrong, and that he indeed would also walk in on 15 year old girls dressing privately.

He was willing to say he was a predator instead of saying Trump was wrong about doing the same thing.

It was absolutely disgusting.
