America is in the process of destroying itself. It will continue, and be justified, due to the return of Trump to the presidency and the immovable nature of his cult. From a good "two worlds" essay:

Trump, in a Truth Social post, wrote, “I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch … The woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive.”

The attached clip Trump was referring to was taken from well in front of Good’s vehicle. It did show an officer quickly moving out of the way, and appearing to make contact with Good’s car, while gunshots can be distantly heard. The view of the shooting itself was obscured by Good’s car.

Much of the rest of the internet was treated to a different clip and, with it, a very different interpretation of the incident. A cell phone video from behind Good’s vehicle showed her maroon Honda Pilot parked perpendicularly across a Minneapolis street, in an apparent attempt to obstruct the ICE operation, and three masked ICE agents approaching the vehicle. One agent pulls on the driver’s side door handle and appears to shout, “Get out of the fucking car,” at which point the driver backs up and starts to drive away. An ICE agent who had been standing in front of the vehicle moves to the driver’s side and fires multiple times into the driver’s seat. The video shows the vehicle, with the driver now evidently no longer in control, careening off the road.

That was the clip that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey both clearly seemed to have in mind as they responded to the incident. “I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine,” wrote Walz on X in a reference to Trump and Noem’s interpretations. Frey, in a press conference, said, “[ICE is] already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly: that is bullshit.” Trump himself seemed well aware of the existence of this clip. He wrote on Truth Social, “The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator,” an evident reference to a bystander heard shouting in that clip, even as Trump chose to post the video from the front angle.

It’s easy enough to understand why. In the rear-angle clip, the officer standing in front of the car never appears to be in any particular danger. He has time to put his phone down, draw his gun, and take aim as the car is moving towards him. As the car turns right, he pivots to the side of the vehicle, firing three times into the driver’s seat, twice as the vehicle has already moved past him, and then calmly reholsters his gun before slowly walking to the scene of the crash. What it looks like is an execution.

There is also very little in DHS guidelines to justify the actions of the officer. DHS’ department policy on the use of force holds that “Deadly force shall not be used solely to prevent the escape of a fleeing subject,” while stipulating that “deadly force is authorized to prevent the escape of a fleeing subject where the LEO [law enforcement officer] has a reasonable belief that the subject poses a significant threat of death or serious physical harm to the LEO or others and such force is necessary to prevent escape”—a circumstance that it would be a real stretch to apply here, especially to the officer’s second and third shots.

Didn't the Dems force a monthlong shutdown? What non-docile thing do you expect? Take hostages on the Senate floor?
There have been multiple complaints of him taking The administration’s word and view at face value in meetings and not questioning or pressing for example. Other examples are his supposed involvement behind the scenes in caving in on the budget this last time and as of today categorically ruling out any budget holdout to try and rein in ICE (even if symbolically). I just remember him being more of a fighter back in the day.

Again I agree with removing Schumer but I don't think threatening a shutdown over ICE, symbolically or otherwise, would be a smart move right now. Can't go back to that shutdown well again so quickly.

Around page 36, I was chastised by a certain poster (who hasn’t visited this thread in quite some time) for being a hypocrite for not giving Trump credit for rounding up “thousands upon thousands” of murderers, rapists, and child molesters.
Oh, you mean this:

"Oh you can blame ice for the random cases that fall through the cracks that will eventually get fixed and those are unfortunate. But you can't bring yourself to thank ice for getting thousands upon thousands of murderers and rapists, and child molesters out of this country. So that makes you a hypocrite and someone who cares more about a green card holder than the people who have had family members murdered by people your party invited in. You should be deeply regretful for supporting the biden / harris border policy. But, you aren't. Such misplaced priorities and devoid of sympathy for those you played a part in their deaths."

?

Yeah, dude was and is a fraud. "Thousands upon thousands of murders, rapists coming in when those crimes have been falling for 3 fucking years.

He then made this post to try to prove his point:

-------
“During a recent nationwide gang surge, ICE arrested over 1,780 individuals, with 1,472 identified as gang members, associates, or those facing criminal charges. Approximately 35% of those arrested had violent criminal histories, and 16 were identified as gang leaders, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Additionally, a separate operation focusing on MS-13 and 18th Street gangs resulted in 274 MS-13 arrests and 15 arrests related to the 18th Street gang.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
  • Gang Surge Arrests: 1,785 individuals arrested, with 1,472 identified as gang-related.

  • Violent Criminal Histories: Nearly 35% of those arrested had prior violent criminal records.

  • Gang Leaders: 16 individuals arrested were identified as gang leaders.

  • Criminal Charges: ICE also arrested individuals on charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and drug/firearms violations.

  • Operation Matador: Targeting MS-13 and other gangs, this operation resulted in 274 MS-13 arrests and 15 arrests associated with the 18th Street gang, according to ICE.

  • Criminal Records: Some gang members arrested had prior criminal histories, including assault

He was really convinced he had something here, even though this content looks to be AI generated. Which is usually reliable, but it's always good to check your work because the link (click it) is an article from fucking 2009. You know, back when ICE actually did some investigative work and their mission wasn't just to round up brown people in blue cities.

But he'll preach to this board about the left being influenced by the "biased" media when he can't even look at the governments own data to make a valid point.

Thank god we have him to give us an unbiased perspective on immigration.

Another fake ass human.

and a standard of reasonable care applies to that "threat on their life" judgement.
My problem with all law enforcement is that they don't truly stand "in front" of a vehicle. They stand just off the front bumper on the driver's side, so they can easily move out of the way, as this agent did, if the driver tries to flee, but still claim their "life is in danger" so they can kill the driver.

Vance is truly an astonishingly repugnant, grotesque soulless husk of a human being. Trump is gross in his own ways, but Vance pound for pound may actually be an even worse human being because he knows better and chooses this anyway. Trump is just a cartoonish caricature of literally every single human vice embroiled into one loudmouth, orange makeup-caked, diaper-wearing tub of lard.

So, his plan is to pit the National Guard against ICE.

Seems like a terrible idea.
For ICE, maybe. The National Guard has tanks, artillery, M4 carbines, etc. and actually trained soldiers who are in peak physical condition. ICE has a bunch of high school dropout chodes who spend their free time dunking their dicks in the chocolate wonderfall at their local Golden Corral buffet. The National Guard vs. ICE would look about as competitive as peak-Saban Alabama playing Western Carolina.

Back in the day, swing voters were educated professionals. You know, like the substantial number of posters here who used to identify as GOP and conservative. You can reason with those people.

Now the swing voters are rando weirdos who show up intermittently to elections and if we're lucky have scratched the surface of a political issue or two, if we're lucky. We have viral internet that can take any slightly awkward phrasing and turn it into evidence of some anti-American leftist conspiracy.

Everything is different now. I wish people would recognize that there are no simple answers, no simple things that Schumer or Jeffries or Jeff Jackson or anyone can do to shift public opinion so suddenly as to form the kind of resistance you seem to want. And there is a president who does whatever the fuck he wants regardless of the law, which makes it hard to resist from the Senate floor.

Remember the tik tok law? Yeah, lol. It met the fate that the Epstein file release law is getting today. There is literally nothing Schumer can do to change Trump's behavior. Any rights that are won have to be enforceable in court or they are useless. And even then it's an issue because we have a corrupted, compromised, lunatic Supreme Court.

yeah, a lot of what they do and what they instruct "suspects" to do results in catch 22 situations and it often seems intentional so that they can claim that their actions are justified regardless of what occurs.

and it is impossible to comply when you're being given conflicting instructions.

Oh man, did Vance just give us permission to shoot him? If you're listening, Russia . . .

It is again worth mentioning that the only reason the officer was hurt previously was that his actions were both illegal and extremely stupid.

He smashed the rear window of the car (blatantly illegal) and then put his arm into the broken glass (what a fucking idiot).
