If Trump Wins

I'm a white male in my late 60's, retired 6 years, drawing my socialist security benefits. My life will probably not be upended by another Trump administration, any more than anyone else that will have to navigate the economic meltdown that will follow, and the international shunning and repercussions from Trump's authoritarian buddies. But it is more a matter of principle. You either believe in the experiment, and respect the Constitution for what it is, and what it has become, you accept and appreciate the rule of law..... or you just don't give a flying f*ck and want to bring it all down. I will have to lay low and hope we can survive the experience. But what we all have to realize is that Trump is not the problem per se, the problem is the emboldened white, Christian nationalists that put Trump in power, and who will probably dethrone him early in his second term (25 th amendment or more drastic measures) to put Jesus D Vance on the throne.

Regardless of the Presidential outcome, I'm hoping for at least one opposing party majority in either or both of the House or the Senate. Both Presidential candidates have proposed some dumb policies and we need for the separation of powers to save us from flawed campaign promises.

i'm a woman and a member of the lgbtq community and still relatively young (mid 30s). my parents and i own a small business that we've worked really hard to build for the last couple of decades. one of them is now retired and the other is close and its going to be my business.

if he wins, the future looks pretty frightening and uncertain from my perspective.

but i worried about this a lot more prior to biden dropping out and kamala entering and really changing the calculus. if we get the turnout that we should, she's going to win.

In re Trump wins: If St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago wins, retains a majority in the House, and regains control of the Senate . . . then the US will head straight down the drain. And whose fault will it be, not St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago, blessed be his name. It will be the collective faults of brown and black peoples, those in other countries who the "Moral Majority" believe have been sucking off the USA's teet for too long, and most of all by people like those who post on this board. Make no mistake, in post-Democracy Trump America, the political leadership will be coming after us by means judicial and extra-judicial. We will be the active sabatours who are frustrating and preventing St. Donald's Golden Tomorrow. As long as one of us is alive and not imprisoned, we will be the reason the Golden Dawn of Trump's America has not yet arrived.

If Trump wins the election, the GOP will almost certainly take both House and Senate. Senate will probably go GOP even if Kamala wins.

Are we really going down the both-sides rabbit hole, again? I don't know what "dumb policies" you think Kamala has proposed (no, she isn't going to do anything about price-gouging, and the Dems in Congress will not go along with it even if she wanted to), but all of Trump's ideas are terrible.

Trump's economic plan, with his new emphasis on tariffs as a revenue source and insistence that the Fed be subject to political control, is now virtually identical to that of Juan Peron, the ruler of Argentina and primary architect of Argentina's downward spiral. So you're good with that? You want the US to become Argentina?

I've never lived in a fascist country with an autocratic ruler so I'm not sure what to do to best cope and survive should Trump win. I do have a morbid curiosity about what day to day life would be like.

I will not move out of the country unless my extended family wants to leave.

If Trump wins I don’t see any realistic scenario where the House (gerrymandered all to hell) or senate are Dem-controlled.

My employer is thoroughly in Trump’s crosshairs, so if he wins I’m going to try to find a new job by inauguration.

I’ve thought about this quite a bit in the last year or so…even before Biden dropped out when he was polling poorly.

My wife and I have the resources to sell our house tomorrow and live comfortably outside the US, but I don’t want to do that for several reasons.

1. This is home and I’d rather not leave
2. Our kids are entering adulthood, this is the only life they’ve ever known and I don’t want to be far away from them
3. I could totally see a Trump Admin implementing a vindictive policy to make it illegal for for those who leave, to return in the future, even after he’s long gone

Reality is I’m a straight white male, so his Admin’s wrath won’t be directed towards me, at least initially. I’ll feel bad for those it does affect…at least those who are voting age and voted for Harris…not the ones who vote Trump against their own interests or don’t vote at all. But at the end of the day I’ll likely stay away from news as much as possible, pray for the day his clock runs out, and hope the damage he does before then doesn’t totally destroy our democracy.
Had to look at the author to see if I had already responded to this thread. My situation is very similar.

Though having a gay daughter might be a bigger issue when trump starts pushing the agenda to punish everyone who doesn't worship him and make the same family choices as JD, we might be targets.

May I ask what field the business is in?

Is it a service or a store that we could support?

My daughter is gay, she wants to open her own bakery someday.

A ttump admin is going to do shit like publish voting records and/or donations to planned parenthood, ACLU, SPLC, special interest non profits, etc. They’ll consider it “patriotic” for local PD and sheriffs to keep records of households that have rainbow flags and democratic pol campaign signs. Local PDs will look the other way when the proud boys fire a few shots into the tailgate of a car with an old Biden/Harris sticker. I think an assumption that middle-age whiteness is high quality armor is a fool’s errand. These folks want the blood and suffering of non white, non straight people AND their liberal minded “enablers”.

If I did not have children or any close family members, my husband and I would probably move to England or Australia. I've lived in both countries and would be happy to live there again. I feel so sad for what America has become after the first Trump presidency and I think the advent of AI is going to accelerate things in a negative direction. But family keeps me here.

that is very kind, thank you ❤️

we're in real estate. property management and sales.

i'm not worried about the business, we do pretty well and we have plenty of good clients and customers.

but i don't want to have to leave or sell the business because my country no longer feels like a safe place where my human rights and civil liberties are protected.

i hope that your daughter gets the opportunity to open her bakery soon! i would love to patronize her business.
