Unplanned is the Trump way, unfortunately.

The intent behind the blockade is to prevent Iran from exporting oil. If a thousand ships a day go through, and not one is carrying Iranian oil, the blockade is working.
How does the US make sure none of the 1000 ships are carrying Iranian oil?

I mean... I doubt it's going to cost the trillion dollars that Biden's student loan forgiveness plan would have cost.
I think Biden approved 188 billion in debt forgiveness during his four years in office. We have spent around 30 billion on our war with Iran so far. Here's hoping our wasted billions in Iran won't surpass Biden's debt forgiveness approvals during his 4 years in office that helped students here at home and did not kill 13 Americans, injure hundreds of our military, kill thousands of Iranian citizens, and negatively impact our global economy.

In order for the ships to have Iranian oil, they'd have to dock at an Iranian port or an Iranian ship would have to leave an Iranian port with oil.

From what I've read, ships are passing through, but aren't stopping in Iran, so it would seem to be basically impossible for Iranian oil to leave Iran, right?

Only because SCOTUS stopped him from forgiving what could have been as much as a trillion.

If 100 Chinese, Russian and Indian flagged ships make port in Iranian waters how do we determine if they’ve loaded up with oil, and keep them from passing through?

what else are you willing to read?

Blockage is working. Iran’s economy will be strangled. Wall Street Journal reporting at least 20 tankers sailed through the Strait yesterday. Good start.
1. Blockage is what you have after 45 wings and 5 beers on a Friday night. This is a blockade.

2. It isn't working. It has been implemented. Those are not remotely the same thing. We won't know if the blockade works for quite some time. The thing about wars of privation -- they take a long time.

3. It's unlikely to succeed, and everyone knows it.

4. 20 tankers is a good start in the same way that hitting a 3 on the first possession is a good start. Much, much, much more is needed.

Ram probably has some blockage to his brain.

Lololol Pubs, y'all are fucked so hard sans lube in November.

More than one data point is needed. For all we know that guy heckling Vance was a guy "checking things out."

I mean your last point is correct -- I'm just replying to the idea that this specific heckling means anything.

When we exaggerate claims like this, that's how we get delusions like, "we couldn't possibly have lost this election."

I'd assume in the similar way that we verified what was onboard the Chinese boat - inspect what is loaded.

But, again, if no ships are docking in Iran and no ships are leaving Iran, then there's no way to take anything from Iran, right?

The fact that so many posters seem to be looking (read: hoping) for failure is so odd.

As with everything MAGA (tariffs, inflation, DOGE) they have to claim victory early in the process before the true ramifications turn its ugly head. By then they have already moved onto the next victory.

I'm saying that if spending is your concern, then be concerned about all unnecessary spending, not just the spending from the other party.
But not all spending is equal. That's what people like you don't understand. Let's compare:

1. Spending massively on war. This is pure economic loss. Things get destroyed. Things get consumed. People who could be doing productive things are instead doing destructive things.

2. Student loan forgiveness actually causes zero economic loss at all. In fact, it produces gains. People who were being crushed by debt would have become free to start businesses or invest in projects or do things that they can't do if 100K in debt.

3. your objection to student loan forgiveness is mostly distributional. You are upset that losses are being socialized. Fine. But that isn't remotely the same as war spending. That is distributional AND wasteful.

4. You can make an argument about incentives and loan forgiveness but that argument has been shown mostly to be false as an empirical matter and anyway the claimed effects are nowhere near the level of war.
