I don’t even know where in the fuck to put this on which thread, but apparently the fucking Trump administration is threatening the… checks notes… Vatican with military action.

Among his many, many other flaws, Trump is simply a classic bully. He blusters and threatens and tries to intimidate others into backing down. And if they don't and instead stand up to him, like a classic bully, he's the one who blinks and backs down in many cases, in spite of his tough rhetoric. He's been this way his entire adult life. He learned part of it from the notorious American lawyer Roy Cohn, who served as Senator Joe McCarthy's top assistant in his anti-Communist witch hunt that terrorized Washington DC and a good part of the country in the early-to-mid fifties. There are a lot of similarities between McCarthy and Trump, and one of the connections was Cohn. He told a young Donald Trump to always be aggressive and go on the offensive in dealing with other people, to be a bully, to retaliate for any slights, and that most people are timid and will back down first rather than go through the stress of confrontation.

And so now we have the POTUS threatening the Pope if he doesn't "get on board" and support whatever war Dear Leader has started. It won't work - I doubt a Pope raised in Chicago is going to be intimidated by the blustering and bullying of Donald Trump, a reality show star - but here we are.

It's been 47 years since the Iranian Revolution and they still call themselves the Revolutionary Guard? It's not a particularly Revolutionary anything at this point.
The awfulness of the Iranian regime since Khomeini took over Iran in 1979 can't be overestimated. The Shah was pretty awful too, but at least Iranian women were allowed to live twentieth century lives and be doctors and lawyers and pursue their own lives and careers. The Revolutionary Guard forced women back to the Middle Ages almost overnight - all female doctors, lawyers, professors, etc, were stripped of their jobs, women had to wear veils and clothing from head to toe in public or face beatings, and on and on. Millions of Iranians have died since the regime took over from endless wars with neighbors or just being killed by their own government in protests or for opposing the regime, while others have been tortured in jails and prisons. The government is a theocracy, with no separation at all between mosque and state. It's a thug regime from top to bottom.

And yet having said that they may well be giving more reliable information about what is happening with this war and cease fire than the Trump administration, which really says it all about where we are as a country right now.

No doubt. Love this comment.

I think I know which one will burn in Hell

The terrorists, as was the case in Gaza, aren't participating in the agreed to ceasefire?

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but if I'm being honest, I am getting a bit tired of Israel constantly leading us around by our dicks. What do we owe them exactly? And why are we inserting ourself into historically unwinnable religious wars?
everyone is getting tired of this regime.

1) they should start figuring out how to survive in the region they didn't have big Brother behind them

2) if they're gonna depend on big Brother they need to behave...they they commit atrocities at times of war and the settlement thing is just disgusting.

I think we are mature enough to understand that this administration in Israel can be absolutely criminal without being antisemitic...heck many Jews can.

Israel is one of the most heavily armed small nations in the world, maybe the most heavily armed. The country is about the size of New Jersey and is a well-armed fortress with a military that is equipped with the latest and most advanced weaponry. They no longer need us for protection or their survival, as they're fully capable of defending themselves against almost any adversary, as they've repeatedly proven recently. All we're doing by blindly supporting them at this point is to encourage them to be even more reckless and aggressive in destabilizing the entire region, imo.
