So you are saying Chuck Schumer, then the #3 Senate Democrat and knowing Obama had the votes to pass the agreement, was parroting the Israeli position on the JCPOA ten years ago?

Hmmm.

Then again, in 2018 Schumer criticized the Trump administration's decision to pull out of the agreement, noting that doing so "precipitously without our allies involved" did not achieve necessary goals.
He had the votes? Yet it failed to pass congress. Might as well been a grade school note between Obama and Iran.

Schumer trashed it for the same reason more than half of congress did. It was trash and Schumer explained in detail why. Meanwhile, the plan supporters argued basically a bad deal is better than no deal. I get this board has to jcd it, but it just makes those look foolish because any defense is rooted in trusting Iranian mullahs and admitting it gave Iran the financial resources to fund terrorism. Israel probably doesn’t get attacked without Obama freeing up Iran money.

JD Vance has officially become Trump's favorite whipping boy. Even if he had succeeded in these negotiations Trump (or Kushner) would have taken all of the credit for it. But since the negotiations failed (as Trump probably suspected they would) then Vance will become the convenient scapegoat.
Even useful idiots need their own useful idiots. Especially, the Orange useful idiots.

Can someone explain to me why we dont sink the Iranian naval ships controlling the Strait and open it up? We have the greatest military, right?
They don’t control it with ships. They control it with mobile missile launchers and drones hidden in the millions of crags and caves in the mountains stretching along the Iranian side of the strait. The only way to eliminate that risk is huge numbers of boots on the ground, and even that may not work.

Correct, it would be like trying to secure the damned Mississippi river if the natives of Mississippi decided to start bombing ships passing throigh there.

If the JCPOA needed to be renegotiated, Trump should have done that back in 2018.
But instead, he (of course) did the dumbest thing possible and tore up the agreement and THEN tried to renegotiate. Those actions lead us here. Calla keeps ignoring these facts.
However, I do agree we should hope Trump succeeds in negotiations. However, it seems likely he is going to negotiate a deal that is worse than what he tore up in 2018. Time will tell.

At this point, the most likely outcome is no deal at all. Iran keeps developing its nuclear program and we just drop more bombs every now and then. Iran controls Hormuz and works out deals that help our adversaries and hurt us and our allies. Global oil prices remain elevated. Trump claims victory without being able to point to anything that’s better than it was before the war.

As has been the case with virtually everything he’s done, Trump is just making the world worse and America weaker to the detriment of the people who will have to try to fix it when he’s gone.

But we have the most powerful military in the world. Why would boots on the ground be necessary with our capabilities?

They have their naval ships out there. Besides we have the most powerful military in the world. Why would boots on the ground be necessary with our air and sea capabilities? Something is not adding up.
