Probably the best thing to do. I’m just not happy with where we are and I don’t like the taste of that humble pie. And I’ve stated before I don’t want troops on the ground, dead kids, American ships on fire in the strait. No good answers.
Sorry I wasn’t trying to assign positions, but I don’t see where the wiggle room is. Pretty basic positions on both sides. What more could have been gained diplomatically. I don’t think Iran is going to cave on any of their positions. Are they going to give up the pursuit of nuclear weapons? Give up tolling the strait?
Unless the oil is transported to the Pakistani Gwandar Port for shipment to China. Too many logistical issues and capacity limitations for Gwandar to replace Hormuz but we may have to decide whether a blockade of Hormuz is a blockade of other Iranian transport options, including Gwandar access and rail across their eastern border.
You are absolutely correct that there are no good answers and it absolutely is humiliating but I don't see any way to avoid that.
