You're probably right (that it is a higher figure). Youssef is a reporter for The Atlantic, so the official - likely on background for now, given how the administration feels about unofficial releases of information - probably offered what (s)he felt was a legitimate figure at the current time.

On second thought maybe its not. Depending on how the figure is calculated. Did they include fixed cost? headcount, food, pay (excluding combat pay), some fuel, etc. would have been incurred regardless of attacking. I'm assuming its bombs, extra fuel, equipment losses, parts, etc. So all variable costs.

what excuses will the left come up with if it takes the house and senate? Vance has been complicit with everything trump has done so why not get rid of him as well? That would give you 17 more options so not sure where you guys stop. Maybe Rubio?

It's slander when any person equates critique of the government of a country with religious discrimination. When people criticize the government of Iran, I do not for one second presume that their issue is with Islam unless they specifically say so. Even then, it isn't racism because religious intolerance is not racism.

and common sense says they would have rearmed and been shooting at oil tankers. Giving the country that is indiscriminately attacking civilians and its neighbors who haven't attacked them the benefit of the doubt is lunacy and born out of trump hatred. I mean this is a leftist board so you won't get questioned. Admit it. You are pulling for iran aren't you?

Such amoral thinking usually invites unexpected retaliation. And I'm not sure what ignoring survivors accomplishes, but then again it kept them from getting back to Iran and returning to the fray. But what about Iranians already in America, what about teenage Iranian boys? What about child producing women in a Iran who could raise future soldiers who could man boats that hurt our country? Your logic allows and invites annihilation. A number of historical figures, however, nod their heads in agreement with you.

It doesn’t because common sense prevails. If we were ordered to abandon survivors then im very troubled by that. I will wait until there is more information. Maybe we contacted the Sri Lanken coast guard to pick them up. Maybe we didn’t. I could see hegseth abandoning them with his “warrior ethos and we are fighting to win BS but there is always more information than what is reported, especially by antagonist news sources. I hope a direct question is asked to him. I haven’t seen one.

It is a goddamned war crime to kill noncombatants. Don't tell me to admit shit when you are openly advocating for the complete abandonment of law and order.

What you are inviting is the very same future treatment of our own servicemen. We could have easily boarded the ship, forced the evacuation of it, and scuttled it. We knew with 100% certainty it was unarmed.

I am "pulling for" sanity, morality, and for us to be better than the terrorists we are purporting to kill.
