I don’t know, he’s on the verge of permanently crippling our ability to project true strength and hegemony abroad. We are completely cooked in the Middle East for generations to come, and the Chinese are watching and studying our every flailing move intently.
Vietnam and Cuba were bigger issues and more significantly impacted our ability to project American strength and hegemony across the globe. At least as of today.

Iran's leadership has been culled and the military is weakened. It is not going to come as revelation to China that Iran has the ability to land a few missiles and drones at short-range targets in the Middle East. That is like State making a few baskets against Duke. No one thought it was going to be a shutout.

Now, maybe the complete brain drain in the DoD and the complete ineptitude of the Trump administration will eventually cause Iran to become a shitshow. But as of today, Trump has a long way to go to get to Bay of Pigs or Khe Sahn stupidity.

Didn’t we technically “win” at Khe Sahn, though, at least in the sense that we forced North Vietnamese withdrawal with enormous casualties just before the Tet Offensive?

otherwise all fair points, for sure. Still, though, I can’t help but feel that the negative ramifications of this particular conflict will reverberate much deeper and for much longer than the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. At the very least we almost certainly have made it a heck of a lot more likely than it was last week this time that future attempted 9/11’s could occur.

Khe Sahn cost lots of money, equipment and lives -- only to be abandoned by us after the "victory." Meanwhile, it took our eyes off the ball and let the Viet Cong coordinate the Tet Offensive with troop movements that would have been obvious if we weren't obsessed with winning a battle over a base that we didn't even care about.

That is why it was such a tactical disaster. And Bay of Pigs, Iran hostage rescue, Vietnam and Afghanistan withdrawal, etc., etc. were just disasters period. Don't think we are at that level yet with Iran.

And it could be a lot worse. Attacking a country of 98M with capability to regenerate arms and already widened the scope of the war in the M.E. carries the risk of throwing a hand grenade into a munitions dump.

Westmoreland was never going to win 'Nam. DOD and the Feds constantly lied to the American people about status, casualties, rationale for entering the war, etc. JFK knew better than to be drawn into the quagmire. LBJ did not.

U.S. Sending More Forces to Middle East as Iran War Widens

Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, acknowledged the possibility of an extended campaign, as the military announced that six U.S. service members had been killed so far.

“… The U.S. military’s Central Command announced on Monday that two more American service members have been killed in the war, bringing the number of dead troops to six.

The State Department activated an emergency task force to secure American diplomatic facilities and assist United States citizens. It also urged Americans to depart immediately from 14 Middle East countries — including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates — because of “serious safety risks.”

Earlier in the day, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that the U.S. military was bolstering its forces in the Middle East, sending more troops and fighter jets to the region.

“This work is just beginning and will continue,” he said, adding that when additional fighter jets arrive in the coming days the United States will be “just about where we want to be in terms of total combat capacity and total combat power.”

He declined to say exactly how big that overall force would be.…”

Trump has a ways to go to pass Bay of Pigs and Khe Sanh in terms of stupid military strategies.
Bay of Pigs was not a US military operation and only involved US air and sea support. 4 Americans were lost and It was American financed but not military. Khe Sanh was part on an ongoing war and not a singular mistake . You'd need to compare to the whole of the Vietnam War. There were plenty of stupid strategies there and I'm not sure if Khe Sanh would make the Top Ten overall.

So basically the UAE and our other allies in the region are going to run out of interceptors soon, while Iran can keep shooting their cheaper missiles and drones at them for a longer period of time. Sounds swell. Dear Leader and Pete "Macho Man" Hegseth have really got a handle on this thing, guys! Maybe Pete can do some more pushups and flex while grunting loudly and emitting fierce noises, that will surely scare those Iranians to the negotiating table!
Hey! DUI Hire Kegseth needs to look RIPPED to post his content!
