I'm sure you've seen the video of Trump blaming Iran for for the bombing, while Hegseth, stand a couple feet behind him, says they're still investigating. I'm going to give Hegseth & Co. the benefit of the doubt.....for now.

I don't think there's ever been any doubt that Trump is such an unredeemed narcissist that he believes his hagiography. He believes he's the greatest real estate developer of all time. He believes the Apprentice has the best ratings of any show ever. He believes he's incredibly popular and people love him, and if they don't it's because of fake news. He believes he's the greatest president of all time and should be universally realized as such. He believes he really did massively win the 2016 and 2020 elections and voter fraud is the only thing that made him lose the popular vote and/or electoral college. He believes everyone loves what he's doing with DHS, with Iran, etc.

What you are eliding, as usual, is that this isn't a black and white thing. There isn't the fully good side and the fully evil side, in this war or any war. Just like there aren't only two options here: "intentional destruction of school" and "complete accident." In fact, leaving aside the "intentionally targeted a school" angle, there are at least the following distinct possibilities:

1. US was striking the military target but knew collateral damage would likely significantly damage and cause casualties at school. Did it anyway.
2. US was striking the military target but wasn't sure whether there would be any collateral damage at school. Did it anyway.
3. US was striking the military target and analysts determined beforehand that they could hit target without damaging the school. They were wrong and/or screwed up execution of the strike.
4. US was striking the military target and those ordering strike didn't realize the school was right next to it, either because of intelligence failure or because intelligence didn't get to the people ordering strike.

Where, exactly, on that continuum you would escribe what the US did as "evil" is a matter of opinion. But if it's either option 1 or 2 I would say it's at least arguable that what we did was evil, because if nothing else we could have hit the military target at night when the school was mostly empty, rather than when it was full of children.
