"You broke it, you fix it"
The problem for Japan/S.Korea is that they are the ones who suffer the harm. 95% of their oil passes through the strait. Basically none of our oil does. So those countries can try to find alternative supplies in an escalating oil market, but their economies could grind to a halt soon if the oil doesn't get restarted. In contrast, the US is self-sufficient with oil and does not bear the same risk from starting the stupid war.

On Friday we were seeing news of vessels in the Persian Gulf being struck by Iran. I haven’t seen any of those stories over the weekend or today.

Saying the quiet part out loud again.

"Really, I'm demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory, because it is their territory ... they should help us. You could make the case that maybe we shouldn't be there at all, because we don't need it. We have a lot of oil."

I f*cked this up for the world. So, the world should clean up my mess.

Global commodity markets don't work that way.

We won the war so it is unfair that Iran won't open the Strait Hormuz... so sayeth our stable genius president .

You know it's bad when Archie Bunker had a better handle on oil $ and energy controlling our lives that Trump.

Deluded Dementia

Japan has no oil resources, yet the chart says we import 3+million barrels of oil from them? Must include highly refined petroleum products and not barrels of oil.

So, Iran is basically “storming the Capitol” at this point?

Oil trade figures include unrefined and refined products. I don't think "highly refined" is necessary.

It is probably just the shipment of refined oil (jet fuel or gasoline) from Japan to Hawaii and/or Guam

As Jamelle Bouie has commented (and probably other people too) Trump fundamentally does not seem to understand that other countries/world leaders have agency. In Trump's brain, it goes "I won the war, my military beat their military, therefore Iran has to do what I say." Like he's the guy playing the video game, and everyone else is a NPC. That Iran's leaders may have their own thoughts about how the war is going and what they should do to serve their interests, and their country's interests, seems to genuinely not have crossed Trump's mind. Hence comments like these, where President Big Baby complains that every person in the world won't do exactly what he wants them to do all the time.
