Almost have to take a shot of there is a way to collapse the Iranian government. I don’t know what that kind of strike would look like — there is zero point killing a bunch of protesters on behalf of the regime.

What the hell would come after such a collapse? I think it is entirely naive to believe that we would suddenly be better at regime building than we previously have been.

with apologies to the great Neil Young...

I was talkin' to the preacher
Said, "God was on my side."
Then I ran into the hangman
He said, "It's time to die
You gotta tell your story, boy
You know the reason why."

Are you ready for the Rapture?
Because it’s time to go

Maybe, but protesters are banking on support from the US at this point. To not follow through would have grave consequences for those in Iran who are now putting their lives on the line.

I would love to know the intel on this stuff … it feels like this could be an opportunity to see the Iranian regime overthrown but as others have noted, then what?

The Iranian regime has been a force of chaos across the region and increasingly the wider world for decades. I would love to see Russia’s arms dealer removed from the equation but just don’t have the info to understand the confidence levels in what might come next.

If they are depending on the US to support them, they are well and truly fucked. Whether we support toppling the current regime or not, we will NOT do the heavy lifting of helping them build a durable government.

Any other administration might feel that moral obligation.

This one? Good fucking luck.
