correction, Matt Bradley (Duke alum) reporting it's likely David's Sling being activated, which deals with ballistic missiles at higher altitudes than Iron Dome.

MSNBC has live footage of Tel Aviv, lots of anti-missile missiles taking off. what looks like blown apart shrapnel coming down.

sounds like the air raid sirens have stopped in Tel Aviv.

I didn't notice any explosions.

Four killed and several injured in a shooting in Tel Aviv.

The Israeli police said that four people were killed in a shooting in Tel Aviv on Tuesday and that an additional seven were injured. Two attackers were “neutralized” on the scene, the police said.

The shooting took place just as an eerie quiet was descending on the city ahead of a widely anticipated Iranian missile attack.

The shooting occurred on Jerusalem Boulevard, a major tree-lined thoroughfare and important public transportation route in the city’s Jaffa neighborhood. Israel’s emergency service agency, Magen David Adom, said it was treating the injured, two of whom were critically wounded and had lost consciousness.

Images broadcast on Israeli television showed two gunmen in street clothes carrying large rifles. Video shared widely online showed injured people lying on the sidewalk on Jerusalem Boulevard.

One if my best friends in AVL is Lebanese and his parents are there. He’s dealing with Helene AND this.

How exactly do they expect people to vote when they are fleeing for their lives? Such stupidity and lack of empathy for human lives.
The president there is selected by the parliament, not directly by the people, and the parliament there has been deadlocked since 2023. The USA has been trying to get the deadlock broken as a humanitarian and strategic matter -- the lack of a president has frozen operation of governance.

"...Mired in political paralysis — partly, Mr. Daou said, because Hezbollah has moved to block attempts at resolution — Lebanon has gone nearly two years without a president and has only a caretaker government.

The state provides barely any electricity, leaving everyone dependent on generators, if they can afford the fees. Many generators can power only one appliance at a time, so residents unplug refrigerators or forgo air-conditioning just to do laundry. ..."

Interesting interview

Q: Was Hezbollah right to join Hamas?
A: Yes, it was their moral duty.
Q: Did Hezbollah gamble?
A: Yes, a gamble that seemed reasonable given the deterrence (vs Israel) that existed before the war. At some point Hezbollah did not have the ability to climb down the tree, because of the humiliation of abandoning Gaza.
Q: Why did Hezbollah not escalate?
A: Nasrallah didn't want to burden the Lebanese people. When no appropriate response came to the assassinations in Beirut, it was clear Hezbollah wore down its deterrence. The important event was the killing of the children in Majdal Shams that gave Israel a good excuse to escalate.

Q: Did Hezbollah underestimate Israel?
A: Yes. They trusted the rules of the game and did not understand that Israel was about to escalate. Nasrallah always said that Israel just needs to cease fire in Gaza and that it'll all stop.

Q: What were the effects on Hezbollah? Why did Hezbollah not take precautions?
A: Hezbollah did not understand Israel was about to escalate. The Israeli strikes stunned Hezbollah, threw it off balance and did not allow it to respond. This is not what Hezbollah had planned. The intelligence penetration was too deep. Israel's strikes were a catastrophe.
Q: What is Hezbollah's status right now?
A: I don't know. Militarily it's too early to say, but we expected more from it. Na'im Qasem's "wiping off sweat" speech was not good and he did not look good. Not at all on the level of Nasrallah's speeches.
Q: Who's responsible for the destruction in Lebanon?
A: Israel. They killed, they destroyed. Make sure everyone understands that.
