So Israel has basically turned Gaza into Haiti. That is not good for Israel and is terrible for the Palestinians. Hopefully, the old men moving the chess pieces can come up with a pan-Arab solution that will restore order in Gaza and make life a little more tolerable for the Gazans.
It was somewhat of a no-win situation. Hamas is a terrorist organization like Al-Qaeda, Isis etc and Israel, rightfully so, is trying to destroy that terrorist organization by taking out its leadership, which it has apparently done.

Unfortunately, that terrorist organization is also the government of Gaza.

Yeah, sounds like a great idea to replace Hamas with an Israeli-backed ISIS group. What can go wrong?
Smuggler and drug kingpin will certainly help setup a governing structure bibi, Ben Gvir, and Smotrich can work with!

Or, that triad is thrilled that yet another easily demonized terrorist group is wresting hegemonic control over Gaza.

I didn't say it's a good idea. The whole place is a chaotic mess and I'm paying attention to see what emerges.

I haven't heard that the long-term plan was to put Isis in charge of Gaza.

In fact, what I have been told is that Israel is going to forcefully remove all Gazans from Gaza and make Gaza part of Israel.

That being the "plan", this whole "negotiation" angle seems like a waste. Besides, what Hamas leadership is even alive to negotiate with? Is it a member of the Hamas janitorial staff?

Due to the return of most hostages, civilian pressure for a deal has overall reduced, while the liberal right camp is pressuring against a deal. Political pressure from within the coalition remains seemingly unchanged, and pressure from the US is unknown. Particularly due to the reason below.

It is becoming increasingly clear that a ceasefire now may do more harm than good for Israel, especially in terms of cost to human lives. Just this morning the death of 5 soldiers (and 14 injured) has been announced, in a roadside bomb attack. This happened in an area previously cleared, from which the IDF withdrew and allowed Hamas to regain control as part of a previous ceasefire and hostage release deal.
This is not to diminish from the importance of the rescue mission and the responsibility for the hostages' fates, but is it really worth losing twice or 3 times as many in combat? This is a serious dilemma.

Anyway, Hamas is still making maximalist demands for only half of the hostages. Demands that could be very costly very soon. But tactically, if Israel stalls the talks for a bit, the combined efforts of the IDF in doing demolition in Gaza and Khan Younis; GHF in decoupling aid from Hamas; and proxies in filling up power vacuums; Israel could force Hamas to either give up most demands, or sell them to proxies in exchange for safety.

An internal government assessment shows USAID officials raised “critical concerns” last month about a key aid group’s ability to protect Palestinians and to deliver them food – just days before the State Department announced $30 million in funding for the organization.

A scathing 14-page document obtained by CNN outlines a litany of problems with a
funding application submitted by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a US-backed group established to provide aid following an 11-week Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip. The United Nations human rights office says that hundreds of Palestinians have since been killed around private aid sites, including those operated by GHF.

The assessment flags a range of concerns, from an overall plan missing “even basic details” to a proposal to potentially distribute powdered baby formula in an area that lacks clean water to prepare it.

Project Hope said Thursday morning's strike in front of its Altayara health clinic in Deir al-Balah happened as patients had gathered outside, awaiting its opening to receive treatment for malnutrition, infections, chronic illnesses and more.

.................................

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that it struck a member of the elite Nukhba forces of Hamas's military wing who had taken part in the 7 October 2023 attack on Israel.

"The IDF is aware of reports regarding a number of injured individuals in the area. The incident is under review," it added. "The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals."

Why would a member of the Hamas military be hanging around a health clinic where women and children are gathering to get help?

Oh, that's right... they want to get them killed to hopefully win the PR war since they clearly can't win the actual war.

Or maybe there is no Hamas military there? Haven't you learned yet? When liars like Bibi and Trump and Hamas put out obvious propaganda and hide the details, it means they are full of shit.

Or maybe the guy was waiting in line for food.

The idea that he was intentionally trying to get Israel to kill him and the other people makes no sense -- and even if he was, it's still on Israel. Doesn't every single police force in the US -- and military for that matter, I would imagine -- have rules of engagement that prevent firefights around civilians unless there's an active shooter?

The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades (IQB) was founded in 1991 as the military wing of Hamas. It is the largest and best-equipped group operating in Gaza and has fought several wars against Israel. Since Hamas’s take-over of Gaza in 2007, the Qassam Brigades significantly enhanced their missile and rocket capacity, and has experimented with drones and underwater commandos. IQB also has its own internal security force (al-Majd).

IQB has claimed responsibility for many attacks against Israeli civilians, including suicide bombings. On 7 October 2023, over 1,000 members of Qassam brigades crossed Gaza’s border into Israel, under the cover of a heavy barrage of Hamas rocket and mortar fire, attacking Israeli military bases, towns, and a crowded music festival. They were soon joined by 5 other Palestinian armed groups, (al-Quds Brigades (Islamic Jihad), al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades (Fatah), Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades (PFLP), Mujahideen Brigades, and the National Resistance (DFLP)).

You'd have to ground game and use precision munitions instead of a flurry of dumb bombs. Bibi never wanted to do that, because he doesn't want victory in the military sense.

Having said that, Hamas the Palestinian (front for PLO, PNA, Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran) have always been about driving the Jews to the sea...just as Ukraine for Putin and his Army of Orcs is about driving the Jews (Ukranian gov.) to Slovakia.

Ukraine and Gaza should be recognized as part of the same war with Putin behind it. The IDF and Mossad outside Gaza has been precise and incredibly effective. Hezbollah and Iran are in tatters. Putin has been weakened. This is where an intelligent POTUS would ramp up Ukraine air and land support and put the hammer down on Putin. A knee to the throat (sorry) for another year would force the Kremlin to find a way to dispose of Putin and appeal for a peace that is economically feasible for Russia.

American campuses should have had as many, if not MORE, pro-Ukraine protests than pro-Palestine protests. There are war crimes against Ukraine civilians daily.

This is something that I hear mentioned often and I want to drill into it before moving on to other topics ...

Gaza, depending on where you look, has about 15,000 people per square mile.

Do you think the current death toll, ~55k, after over 1.5 years of war, reflects indiscriminate use of dumb bombs and a general lack of concern for civilian lives?

Israeli settlers kill an American, but of course, it’ll be swept under the rug

RaiGuy. What happens when European-Palestinians are killed? I seriously don't know. Do they ever get killed? Are there a lot of Palestinian Italians or Palestinian British? And when they get killed, what does in that country do and do the Israelis even care?

ETA and I should say in the West Bank by the Israeli settlers.
