The reason that this isn't funny is that it's not true at all. I'm not talking about the 0.3% part, which could be a humorous exaggeration if the other stuff was correct.

But there is only one Islamist dictatorship (well, monarchy) in the region. Lebanon and Iraq are democracies. Egyptian politics is like Turkiye, except not Islamist at all -- indeed, the military came to power by ousting the Muslim Brotherhood, who are considered anti-Egyptian by huge swaths of the population. Jordan is a constitutional monarchy in which the king has more power than most ceremonial monarchs in Europe but it's not remotely unlimited.

Only Saudi Arabia fits the narrative. And when most of the joke is just factually incorrect, it quickly becomes stupidity more than humor.

The Babylon Bee targets its “humor” to people who have no grasp of Middle East politics, not people like you. I bet if you go on the Babylon Bee X page, you won’t find a single “joke” that makes you even chuckle.

Yes, I know. But the Onion isn't exactly geared to people like me and it's consistently hilarious.

You were right to put quotes around "humor." The Bee is just the latest in a sad line that goes through the Fox Half Hour News Hour all the way back to Mallard Fillmore.

We've had discussion on this board before about conservative versus liberal humor. I stand by my observation (which is hardly a complete description) that conservative humor is basically the way bullies find it funny to pick on more vulnerable kids. Pretty much all conservative "humor" is just punching down.

Bosider that I am, with an extremely dark sense of humor, I find humor in a lot.

I might start a "Dark Humor" thread just to see what others think.

Example of what I find funny BECAUSE it's completely inappropriate:

BTW, my best friend, since we were 16 years old, is a Jewish lawyer. I sent this to him in a group chat.

Seems like this risks ending up a bloodbath of conscripts that could finally turn Israelis against the Netanyahu government…

We'll probably never know the full truth but, according to Israel, he was receiving a salary from al Jazeera and Hamas since 2019.

I've seen 3 pics of Al-Sharif posing with with now-deceased Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

Al-Jazeera is a legit news organization and of course a journalist who writes for them would be paid.

I’m starting to think Zen is a public relations contractor for Israel. He’s rarely more than an hour behind any disparaging posts about Israeli misconduct.

Of the two parties paying him, Al-Jazeera was not the one I found concerning. It was the whole "getting paid by a terrorist organization".

If he was actually being paid by Hamas. A big if. And since Hamas has all sorts of subsidiary organizations, that in itself might not be suspicious.

My strong intuition is that they killed him and are now back-filling with bullshit explanations.
