Israel launches attack on Iran

I know everyone here already knows this but Iran is the Golden Ticket of modern geopolitics. It's a country absolutely loaded with natural resources and has a populace that's far more educated than most emerging nations. It's been held back for decades by its theocratic overlords, but an Iran that joins the modern world, even if not in ideal circumstances (think UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc.), is a real game-changer. I don't trust Trump and Bibi to make this happen, but if Iran is somehow pulled out of its theocratic dark ages, the world would be a much, much better place for it.

Among many others, the Israelis, probably laundered through someone like the UAE or Qatar. And yes, I know those are Sunni countries.
So the people who blew them up hard enough to topple their government will be their benefactors? I have a hard time seeing that.

Israel has blown up Gaza indiscriminately and I would never expect the Palestinians to forgive them. I haven't seen evidence yet that Israel has done the same in Iran. For better or worse, Israel's strikes in Iran appear to be exceptionally targeted and accurate, at least so far.

The US should assist Israel in taking out Fordow. Iran is in a weakened state and the West may not have this opportunity again in our lifetime. That should be our focus not regime change - let the Israelis handle that - if they can. Based upon Trump's tweet, the US may have sent an ultimatum to what's left of the military leadership of Iran, to "surrender" or we'll send our bunker buster bomb to destroy Fordow after x days.

I realize there's a potential huge downside in the US actively assisting Israel offensively and there may be blow back but, on balance, I think it's worth it.

May not have this opportunity again in our lifetime?

The past 4 days have demonstrated we have that opportunity anytime we want. Iran has had virtually no defense.

Lady G still thinks the GQP is a neocon party. It is not...

MTG is a leader of the pro Russian MAGA party in lockstep with our Russian asset who is the DNI.

Is Putin supporting a dismantling of Iran ? I don't think so but those more well versed than I in the current geopolitical Mideast conflict please correct me if I am off base when it comes to Russian relations with Iran.

I don't think Trump will go against his good buddy here.

The US needs to be Boulder!

This attack on Iran is entirely misguided in my view. It is basically setting yet another precedent that might makes right in that region.

We had used diplomacy to achieve this end. Then Trump blew that up and here we are with war. Making Iran look powerless is not going to help. If history is any guide, the Iranians will just double down on terror. Or quintuple. They will plan their own Oct 7.

And what's the point? To take out a military capability that Iran doesn't have and would never use?

Yeah, this is a major problem. We have this idea that if the Ayatollah falls, good things will happen but I have seen no indication that there exists any organized opposition that could step into the void.

The fact that the Shah's son is a player in the resistance should be sobering. He was rightfully hated and deposed, and I can't imagine anyone wants to go back to those days.

Channel 12 seems to consistently publish stories predicting that the U.S. will do what Bibi wants, so grain of sand warning here …

So blow up a site full of some kind of Nuclear material.............
Who cleans all that up?
